hi all,

I am currently not on any treatment for thyroid-but have had deranged results previously (see past posts if interested) I am therefore monitoring myself and last time I posted my results someone kindly worked out my percentages of where I sit in the ranges …..it’s always helpful to get an input so I wondered if I posted my recent results someone might be kind enough to comment.

I retested my TPO as I wanted to see if it had changed as I am now feeling better and I thought if was thyroiditis following on from Covid that I had at start of year maybe it would return to normal levels.

22/08/2024

4.5 pmol/L FT3 levels normal (normal range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

14.9 pmol/L FT4 levels normal (normal range 12 - 22 pmol/L)

2.91 mu/L TSH levels normal (normal range 0.27 - 4.2 mU/L)

TPO 103 IU/ml (above 35 is positive)

Previous results:

FT4: 8.9 pmol/l (Range 7.9 - 14.4) 15.38%

FT3: 5.6 pmol/l (Range 3.8 - 6) 81.82%

Latest results:

Free T4 (fT4) 14.9 pmol/L (12 - 22) 29.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.5 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 37.8%

What time ofday did you take the test? Did you also fast that day and stop any biotin supplements 4-7 days before?

Once TPO antibodies have been triggered they are unlikely to go away completely. They usually signify autoimmune hypothyroidism aka Hashimoto's disease which can wax and wane for many years before treatment is required.

Have you also tested vitamin levels and now supplementing to optimal?

What are your most recent vitamin results

Vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Previous post shows extremely low ferritin of 4

ferritin deficient below 30

Optimal ferritin around 70-100

My B12 is ok last check was over 1000 , my folate level is again ok at 15. I’ve had an infusion of iron but have yet to have that rechecked but it’s gotta be higher than my last count of 4! My Gp won’t check Vit D- just says to supplement as most people are deficient…I know I can test privately but costs so I take a supplement.

Test vitamin D at least annually

How much vitamin D are you taking

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

panmerseyapc.nhs.uk/media/2...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly when supplementing

Can test via NHS private testing service

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with thyroid issues we frequently need higher dose than average
