Medichecks offers active B12 in many of their tests

They do also offer Homocysteine and MMA …..but expensive

Regenerus offer homocysteine test

I’ve emailed Medichecks yesterday to see if they do active B12 and mma on their own

Can’t afford the homocysteine test though.

My own B12 without supplementing Waac 409(140-640)

But folate was just 3.4(3-20)

just had a recent full thyroid type test from Monitor my Health and had a very unexpected Folate serum result of 4.6 about 25% of my usual result ( admittedly from Medichecks)…MMH labs said this was due to delays in the post ( which PO track showed sample stuck 24 hrs in Exeter sorting office), and assured me that with an active B12 of 101 the folate was really much higher than this. So just a thought whether your folate was tested under ideal conditions?

Yes my folate was tested and I had results back within 4 hrs from the Hospital.

Unfortunately finger prick tests are not accurate which is why I always want venous testing .

MMH is not that great anyway.

I’ve not been impressed with them.

Also, whoever did your tests tgat were delayed you should have another test sent FREE.

This was the second MMH test as week before they claimed the two phials had not enough serum in after being spun…odd as in both tests, a week a part, were from venous blood draws as I’m not good with finger- prick tests. MMH had said it was fine to fill the phials from venous blood, but would seem not! I complained the second time and a whole load of bloods they had said were too old they did test after all, 30 mins within their 48 hour blood rule…. only the folate was thought to be compromised. I normally do Medichecks tests, but thought I”d try a. NHS lab to shut up Gp, b. Cheaper package!

Just do normal venous tests and send off

So you need to improve low folate by supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

healthline.com/nutrition/fo...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid supplements

thyroidpharmacist.com/artic...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)
