Blood test with GP want to be armed with information

Hi

I am due to have a blood test with my GP surgery for my thyroid. This is the annual one.

I use a combination of levo and also use NDT which I source myself.

My GP isn’t aware of my NDT nor do I have any intention of telling them.

Every year since my old GP retired it is a constant battle to keep on my current dosage that I am happy with.

This is because my TSH is always suppressed and as we know the NHS hate this.

last year I stood my ground as the GP wanted to reduce my levo, I said why would I reduce it to a dosage that I wasn’t good on. I basically bamboozled him with all my information that he got sick of me and agreed to keep me at my dosage.

My blood test is at 7.30am, and I will not take levo 24 hours before or my NDT 8-12 hours before.

my question is can someone kindly send me the NHS guidance or anything that can help with my flight.

Is it correct that my GP cannot change my dosage if don’t agree.

Thank you in advance.

Your GP is well within their rights not to prescribe any thing that they believe may cause you harm. They can change your dose or stop your medication if they can justify that it may cause you harm. In your case the suppressed TSH is all they need for that.

If they test your FT4 and FT3 and they are within range you may have more evidence that your current dose is OK.

Alternatively, you could just tell them your take NDT which is why your TSH is suppressed (possibly)? And they can seek an advice and guidance from your local endocrinology team about it who may confirm that.

I think if you can ‘show’ you understand the risks of a suppressed TSH and are willing to take the risk in account of feeling better, that could be enough to not get your dose changed.
