Hi, everyone. I am more anxious than I have ever been and for two huge reasons.
Firstly, I have this gnawing pain in my neck, more on the right and while I have had thyroid nodules for a while, this pain in new and I am so worried. I do not have a visible goitre and the size of the nodules have not changed. Small nodules, so why the pain?
Secondly, I reacted badly to Carbimazole and PTU was prescribed for me but I am so scared of taking PTU because of all I read on google about it. I am worried about potential side effects.
Is neck pain common with small thyroid nodules?
Are there people on PTU who have had no issues whatsoever with their Liver Function Tests?
All I think about is "What if it's cancer?" "What if PTU does me harm?"
Thanks in anticipation of your answers, I am losing my mind.

I had neck pain when i was started on diltiazem and carbimazole. It freaked me out but after a while I figured it was my thyroid responding to the medication. The pain went away after a few months. I have no experience with PTU. However i do know that hyper increases feeling of anxiety and once the thyroid is under control you should feel better.
Yes anxiety through the roof with being hyper and does not help, it makes everything worse than it actually is as you cannot think rationally no matter what you try and tell yourself.
Hello, I took PTU as had an allergic reaction to carbimazole and was fine. I panicked and I opted for RAI rather than stay on PTU because of the information in leaflets. Wish I hadnt been so hasty though to accept RAI.
I think what you have to remember is all drugs come with a warning.
Personal experience is PTU wasnt too bad for me and the better alternative.
I had nodules in my neck and they spread to below my clavicle, my neck became stiff. I panicked and got into my Doc. It was finally decided to be swollen lymph nodes. I became disabled. I was caring for my crippled mother inlaw because none of her 7 daughters were willing. As a result, she moved back into her house and someone was hired to tend to her. I gradually recovered over the next 1.5 years. A year later, at my allergy check up, it was discovered that I had been reacting to her cigarette smoking in my house! Have you had any changes before the nodules?
Fear is a natural reaction but is can also trick your mind into making everything worse and the body follows. Look up earthing / grounding. It can help to bring the body, mind, and spirit back to equilibrium.
