Please help with results

Hi everyone,

I need some help. I am a 37 year old male and I have been feeling unwell for the last 5 months so i decided to go to the doctor and have a blood test, i have been feeling lethargic, sore neck, sore muscles weak, lack of energy, nausea and weight loss.

My blood work came back with the following results,

TSH - 0.02 mIU/L

FT4 - 41 pmo1/L

FT3 - 14 pmo1/L

The lab tests said the clinical findings are consistent with hyperthyroidism

My doctor referred for me for an ultrasound to understand why so i had that done too and below are the results

Ultrasound Findings:

The lobes on the thyroid gland are bulky measuring 13ml volume on the right and 9ml on the left. The thyroid echotexture is hererogeneous and shows significantly increased vascularity.

The right lobe contains a solid nodule of 12mm diameter in the interpolar region and a single nodule similar in appearance and solid structure was seen in the lower pole of the left lobe measuring 9mm in diameter. The nodules do not show increased vascularity.

Report Conclusion

The overall appearance of the thyroid gland is that of mild diffuse enlargement and increased vascularity suggestiing either graves disease or thyroiditis.

A non-suspicious nodule is noted in each lobe. The nodules can be followed by progress examination.

My doctor has now asked me to do a nuclear scan for idonine uptake and she hasn't given me any medication yet. I am not sure what to do and if she should be sending me for FNA as i keep reading online that nodules in males have a higher risk of cancer. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am a nervous wreck at the moment.

Welcome to the forum, Ramben78.

You are very hyperthyroid and that accounts for your symptoms. FT4 normal range usually goes up to 22-26, and FT3 normal range up to 7 or 8 so you can see your levels are very overactive. The nuclear iodine uptake test will help determine why you are overactive.

Thyroid nodules are fairly common and 12mm and 9mm nodules are very small, almost certainly too small to FNA. A nodule usually needs to be over 1-1.5cm before FNA can be done when the ultrasound scan detects anything sinister.

Hi Ramben, Are you in a high stress situation as that may precipitate these conditions. Taking selenium can help but you need to know whether you are iodine deficient first. Even though it is hyperthyroidism, it is still considered a hypothyroid condition. This article may help with possible solutions.

Hi ramben78

Welcome to our forum and more women than men appear to get a thyroid hormone dysfunction.

Clutter has given a good response but if you wish you can search (top right/hand) our forum and there are quite a few past questions/answers which may also be helpful.

You are right to try to find out as much as possible in order to try to assist in getting back to good health.

It does come as a shock when you're first diagnosed (I have hypothyrodism) but you then discover that there are thousands of people who have a condition which can disrupt your lifestyle initially.

Best wishes

I went for another ultrasound because i noticed a very hard round pea sized lump in the upper part of my neck and they found a mildly enlarged lymph node which they said the lymph node is of questionable significance and that it may represent a reactive lymph node. I am really starting to worry about cancer now.
