Popcorn12345, If it's anything like thyroid reference ranges, it will be specific to the lab that did your test. The full details should have been supplied to your GP, so maybe get in touch and ask.

Ranges vary betwene labs so ask for a print out of your results.

You are legally entitled to a printed copy of your results, ask at GP reception. In England you can get the NHS app and ask for permission to see your blood results on that by asking at GP’s reception.

Mine says Range:1.6 - 7.2 pmol/L, I don't know of that's the same in every lab.

I guess that proves we can't share ranges then. 😂

There are several members who have difficulty tolerating vitamin D supplements.

One is RedApple but my mind has gone blank as to the others!

It is often suggested that the person needs to take a magnesium supplement to ensure high enough levels of that. But I am very sceptical.

It’s unlikely to be pth that’s causing the problem with Vitd, presume you’ve had your calcium tested ? What is your vitd ? are you truly deficient or just thinking your level should be higher ? not everybody needs high levels.

Lots of people can’t tolerate Vitd, me included, not in any dose or form. I’m also deficient which is unusual for me in the summer. My Dr has suggested injections but I’m reluctant because of side effects which I will not be able to do anything about.

Hi Popcorn12345,I was the same. I take One-Alpha which is aAlfacalcidol which is a hormone version of Vit D. I take this as I am hypoparathyroid. However, the guidelines say that it is beneficial to also take the normal over the counter Vit D. My levels are always very low.

I have tried lots of different Vit D supplements and all of them gave me headache or other side effects. Eventually, after a recommendation on here, I tried the Doctor's Best Vitamin D3 1000 iu supplements and take two a day. Really I could do with a higher dose, especially in winter, but then that seems to interfere with the One-Alpha, which I have to take to control calcium and phosphate levels. These supplements only contain VitD3, extra virgin oil,and the capsule is gelatin, glycerin and purified water. No other fillers or expedient. I have been fine with these.

Good luck in getting to the root of things.

Yes I'm deficient in lots of things. My parathyroid blood test came back normal. I dunno

Essential to test vitamin D, calcium and parathyroid levels together at same time
