Hi all,
Pretty much what it says in the title. I'm looking for some short term sleep support, and as I'm on combined T4 & T3 therapy, wondering if anyone knows of any reason not to take Phenergan (sleeping pills).
Many thanks!

The only things you have to be careful about are things like iron & magnesium that affect absorption of thyroid hormones of taken too close to them.
Levo & T3 are only replacing your own natural thyroid hormone production so there are very few contraindications.
You might consider whether the timing of your thyroid hormone dose(s) could be adjusted and that might help with sleep.

Just checked and you are female and in your 40's 😄 I suffered with insomnia for years, only able to fall asleep 2/3 am till I started hrt and utrogestan.Utrogestan has a welcomed side effect for a lot of ladies..it acts as a sedative and can knock you out cold. I take it early evening and usually within a couple of hours I'm gone and get 7 + hours a night now.
Hiya, thanks for the info.
I don't think I'm quite there yet (peri), I usually sleep pretty well nowadays, but I have a short term stress at work that's keeping me awake. It should be sorted in a month maybe, by which time I'm hoping I'll get back to my usual sleep patterns.
Before my T3 prescription my sleep was shocking, but now I'm managed and can get to the gym, usually pretty good with sleep. Just this stupid work thing that I have to wait out in the short term. 🙁
I find that magnesium has helped me to sleep a little better.
I also take part of my T3 dose during the night and that also helps me sleep.
I react to insect bites. Last year I bought some liquid piriton. It was all that was available where I went. It’s the one that causes drowsiness, which is supposed to work better. Anyway, first time I had 2 teaspoons and was absolutely knocked out 🤪 If I really feel I need a little extra help to sleep now, I just take half a teaspoon and I sleep well. I just do this now and then, but it should be ok for a few nights if you are stressing over something.
I’d rather take that than a sleeping tablet. I also find that being stressed lowers my thyroid levels and therefore this might be the case for you, and a tiny bit more T3 for a few days (or nights) might get you over the “stressy period”.
