Hi all, i take 75mcg T4 and 10mcg T3 together at 6am with a glass of water every morning and don't eat or drink for a good hour , I'm still piling on weight even though I eat healthy but have just read on here that you should take T3 separately from T4 ? Is this correct ? No point asking my GP the admins know more than them , any advice greatly appreciated, feeling grotty to be honest and just want to go to bed by 11am every day, I'm optimal with all my vits so it's not that and when I was on armour I couldn't get the right dose so switched to both T4 and T3 so I could tweak the dose myself, I'm not due bloods till next month but just wondering am I supposed to be taking my T3 separately ? Thanks in advance
T4 AND T3 together ? : Hi all, i take 75mcg T... - Thyroid UK
T4 AND T3 together ?
Not as far as I know, no. I've never read anybody saying that on here. Lot's of people take their T4 and T3 together in the morning. I can't see any possible reason not to. Perhaps they just meant taking a separate does later on in the day. Or, some people prefer to take them separately. But, you don't have to.
Thank you I read it here last night I happened across a post you had commented on but much further down someone else mentioned they take T3 and T4 separate as they were advised to , I must say until last night I'd never heard of it , much appreciated for reply 😁
It was on a post about fainting spells knowing me I mis read it il go check 🤔
Hi Jodie,
I take half my T3 in the morning with my levo and the other half in the afternoon. My endo told me I could take it anytime I wanted and to experiment with the time and find whatever works for me.
Hope this is helpful! Wishing you all the best.
No , it isn''t correct you have to take T4 and T3 separately. I've taken both at the same time. We don't want our lives to be dictated by a particular time. One daily dose is fine with one glass of water.
For instance NDT contains T4,T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin - all in one tablet and gives many people a return to good health.
Thyroid hormones should be taken on a fasting stomach and wait an hour before eating.
Thankyou I didn't do well on NDT as I wasn't able to tweak the dose and was taking too much T3 so I changed to uni pharma liothyronine 10mcg but I dont take an afternoon dose ? Should I take T3 first thing then wait a while to take the T4 ? I'm very confused as to when exactly I should take the T4 , thanks for info
No there is no need to separate them unless that is what suits you, and likewise you can take them at whatever time of the day or night suits you too. I take my T3 and T4 together at night, depending what time I go to bed, to avoid my other meds and supplements. If we had to separate them from each other it would mean that NDT was no good for us, surely?
I don't know I'm just asking as I read here last night that a member takes her levo at night in 2 doses 38mcg at 8pm then 38mcg just before bed she takes her T3 at 8am and second dose afternoon and commented how much better she feels , I just wondered if this would help me as iv never heard of anyone splitting their T4 away from T3 , I suppose it's what works best for you 😁
just read on here that you should take T3 separately from T4 ? Is this correct ?
No it's not correct, there is no "should" about when to take them. The member is talking about what works for her. It's down to what suits us as an individual and we are all so very different.

I use Mercury Pharma liquid Levothyroxine 50mcg.
There are lots of brands. The only one I don’t get in with is Teva. I draw 38mcg at a time. I take 38mcg at 8pm then 38mcg as I’m going g to bed.
I also use ThyBon Henning 20mcg T3. This I get privately from Germany. I cut this into quarters. I take 5mcg at 8am and 5mcg at 3pm.
I was diagnosed by the leading Endocrinologist in the UK.
I trust in him. No other Dr had managed to help me. And I saw many over a years period. In A&E. I stayed in hospital 3 times and they still didn’t have a clue. All along I needed T3 and splitting the T4.
I do believe something happened to me to cause such a downturn in my health. I’m still not sure what.
I was on Levothyroxine alone for 11 years before I hit this brick wall. During those 11 years I had many fainting type issues or loss of strength and swaying. No Dr knew what is was. Now I now for sure after being given T3 and doing the DIO2 gene test which sealed it.
I now know what and why. But still not sure why I hit that brick wall
We have to experiment and find what suits us best. Some can take all their hormone at the same time once a day - I do, I take my full dose of Levo and T3 early in the morning when I need a bathroom trip. Today it was 5am, another day it could be 6am or even 4am. It makes no difference to me. I did try splitting my T3 dose and that made no difference to me either. Others can take their Levo in one dose and need to split their T3 into 2 or 3 doses.
Well, I think you have to experiment and go with what works for you. I can't function without my 2 cups of coffee in the morning so I decided to take 100 mcg at night before I go to bed and my 20mcg Liothyronine between 12 - 2.00 pm. I used to take them both together at night but I find I feel a lot better splitting them.
I dose with T4 and NDT for my T3 without a problem . You might want to check out if your on the right dosages for yourself that is causing you your symptoms and nutrients too .
I just posted another question about this. I’m on a low dose of T3 but taking the 5mcg in the morning with T4 seemed to made me jittery. Maybe, it’s just that I’m under medicated. I have no idea. I’m trying to separate the T4 and breaking up the T3 into three doses. I’m on a total of 7.5 mcg a day. Have no clue what I’m doing but I figure it can’t be worse.
I'm so sorry your going through some difficult times . I split my NDT 3x/day and my T4 2x/day . I find that it works very well for me . I have no thyroids and I manually dose smaller doses throughout the day . My thyroids now come from a bottle . I have been doing it for over two years like this . And it works well or me . At first it was time consuming but I got used to it . I wear a pill holder pendant so I don't even have to carry anything with me because I wear it . I fill it up every morning and dose as I need to . Little things like that are very helpful . It's just a matter of getting used to it . Till it becomes natural .
Best Wishes .
