Having been treated for hypothyroidism since 2000 when I had a thyroid nodule, I have struggled with my weight and wellbeing to varying degrees over the years. I'm now 79, but active.
I saw an Endo privately in October had a few blood tests which I have posted, (including Medichecks in Feb I think) (but he didn't seem particularly helpful - kept saying the only important result was TSH- he is the NHS lead locally too) but he has now prescribed 5mcg T3 to supplement my Levo thyroxine of 125mcg daily.
Had a monitor my health test done on 1st July, and got the results today. I think I should reduce my Levothyroxine a bit-advice please. GP has no interest in women's health it seems, so like many others, I rely on the expertise on here! I feel ok, but have numb fingertips, very dry skin, still struggling to lose weight-need to lose 8-9 kg, as I had early breast cancer in 21 and want to try and minimise a (low risk) recurrence as now taking anti hormone meds. I have a B12 shot every 12 weeks as have pernicious anaemia too but test was done between shots, so 6 weeks ago. I believe these antihormone meds played havoc with my thyroid , cholesterol and BP, so have been piggy in the middle of the Endo, cardio and GP since then! Any advice very welcome.
TSH 0.04 range 0.27-4.2
FT4 25.1 range 12-22
FT3 5.3 range 3.1-6.8

was test done as recommended….early morning, ideally before 9am, only drinking water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
Ideally split T3 day before test as 2.5mcg waking and 2.5mcg dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
Is this how you did your test
Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription
Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking
Low vitamin levels extremely common on levothyroxine, and especially as we get older
Essential to test and maintain GOOD vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
As you get B12 shots…..you could request more frequently….every 8 weeks or even monthly
And are you taking daily vitamin B complex as well
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12
Yes, before 9 am water only, last Levo about 6am the day before, (no T3 then-it only arrived yesterday!) No, not taking B complex but will if thought I should. Folate, 45.4 range 7+ , Vit B 12 active pmol/L 37.5-188, Vit D 220 nmol/L 50-250, Ferritin 111ug/L 30-650, CRP HS 3.290mg/L should be less than 3. Levo brand is always the same- 100=Almus, 25=Mercury. I also take K2/Vit D, Omega 3 capsules, selenium.
