Do PPIs affect absorption of thyroid meds?

Hi, quick question - I've got acute gastritis at the moment. I'm taking 15mg lansoprazole. I also take Armour.

I'm worried the lansoprazole is going to affect how my Armour is absorbed. Has anyone had this problem? GP told me to take them at different times of day, but I hardly think that will help as the whole point of PPIs is they work for 24 hours reducing stomach acid.

Anyone got any experience with this?

I've just literally, in the past couple of weeks, started feeling like the Armour may be working on my fatigue... So I'm very nervous at the prospect of something affecting that. But the gastritis symptoms are awful and I have to treat them.

Hey gastritis is awful and I agree even if you take separately it’s still going to have an effect! I had to increase my t3 when I was on lansoprazole and then when I stopped it reduce it back down x

You could try taking your Armour with fruit juice.

Can't drink fruit juice at the moment it's horrendous for my stomach, I'm literally on a diet of water, crackers, plain chicken and rice

Unfortunately lansoprazole (and others line it) affect the absorption of medication massively. And that for days, while you’re stomach acid ‘recovers’

So taking it in the evening will not help much. Increasing the dose will but I have no idea by how much. Maybe your doctor will be able to help

Hi-I take famotadine for gerd type stuff, and gas x for gastritis which I get A LOT ! I take Tirosint (t4) which is absorbed differently, should not interact with any thyroid meds. You can add cytomel (t3) or generic cytomel to your T4 meds. Tirosint is a gel cap, or you can get the liquid vials too. It does cost more, but so worth it ! Also I've been told there is now a generic for Tirosint.
