Hi

Has anyone else struggle with a painful throat which not caused by a cold when run down? I keep getting sore throat on and off but can go on for quite a while and definitely be worse in evenings

Just wondered if it is just result of me being really tired and run down or connected to my thyroid.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced similar

I had this & discovered that mine was “silent reflux”. It’s caused by acid making its way up the throat & burning. It took a long time for mine to be diagnosed. It’s called silent as there are no other symptoms such as heart burn. You can try Gaviscon to see if it helps.

Have you seen the doctor? It’s probably best to rule out anything serious. I had this, and I was quickly offered an appointment to put a thin tube down my nose into my throat. It wasn’t as intrusive or unpleasant as it sounds! In my case it was reflux, so now I use Gaviscon at the first sign of it.

Yes, often it's reflux, I had the same problem when untreated, went away as I increased NDT dose, switched to T4 only but dose not yet sufficient and the reflux is back along with lots of other symptoms. It's often related to too LOW stomach acid, counter-intuitively! And we tend to have low stomach acid when hypo...

Yes, silent reflux is linked to Thyroid - I have hashimotos and for several years I suffered from Acid Relux although at that time I didn't know I had a thyroid problem. Gluten Free has helped me but maybe better to get it checked out to rule anything else out.

sorrry didn’t see your replies. Thanks for commenting. Yeah had read it can be allergies but it doesn’t feel like that, not heard of silent reflux. It has improved the last couple of days but feel like run down thing maybe. Will get it checked out if it keeps happening. Thanks 😊
