Hypothyroidism and weightloss

Good morning everyone,I am hoping for some good news stories to keep me going. I have gained 2 1/2 stone since I developed hypothyroidism, and I am finding it so so difficult to shift it again even though my current dose of t4/t3 seems to work really well in other aspects (hypo tiredness gone, depression gone, no anxiety, brain fog much better, hair is growing back, skin not as dry). I am also working in getting my iron and b12 levels to optimal but that's not an overnight thing.

Has anyone successfully lost the weight they gained when they first got hypothyroidism?

I am so unhappy at the weight I am now and it's impacting my physical health. I am a very active person and I have always loved a healthy life but my hormone health has impacted a lot, including my eating (binge eating has been a problem since I got hypo, I am certain it is linked). I have seriously started considering if I need to have weightless surgery to "reset".

I am really struggling with this aspect of the disease and I am really hoping to hear some success stories!

previous posts show

A) only on very low 25mcg dose levothyroxine and Ft4 well below range

This may or may not be an issue as you are also on T3

Which brands of levothyroxine have you tried

B) extremely low ferritin

Low iron /ferritin and weight gain

Really interesting talk on YouTube, link in reply by Humanbean discussing both iron deficiency and towards end how inflammation can also be an issue

Aim to get ferritin at least over 70 minimum

Presumably your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Are you on gluten free or dairy free diet

I can't tolerate levothyroxine so unfortunately increasing it is not an option. It have tried all the different brands and whilst I'd like to try tirosint I can't find where I can actually get it.

Hypothyroidism is not autoimmune. I have been tested for celiac and it was negative (I had eaten gluten prior to the test). So I am not on a gluten free or diary free diet. I have very little dairy in my diet and have almond milk in my coffee.

I note the Ferritin point and I not have my Three Arrows iron tablets which is working 100% better as they don't cause constipation. I am testing my iron again in June.

Will watch the YouTube video now :)

in effect you are virtually on T3 only

A) you probably are not on high enough dose T3

B) you may be better dropping Levo completely

C) once ferritin up around 100 you may find you can then tolerate increasing levothyroxine slowly upwards and reducing T3 backdown a little

Thank you, that makes sense to me. I'll discuss with my endo when I next see him. Thank you :)
