I had my 2 hour Iron infusion on Wednesday and Im not sure what I should be feeling because I don’t feel much different than before the fusion …. The Only bonus I have noticed is I can now brush my hair without stopping every 2 mins.

Batty1,

Well, that in itself shows you have slightly more energy. Lets hope the progress continues 😊

Is this how it works slowly each day I feel better …. I guess I thought this was going to be some magic wand and make my issues disappear .

Batty1,

I have no idea as have never had an iron infusion but the way I view it is it took a long time to get into the state so it must take a while for things to unravel and reverse.

Think of red blood cells that carry oxygen and their production improving because of your new iron level, so giving you more energy and allowing you to brush your hair.

But only mature haemoglobin-rich red cells function best so as time goes on, your new improved iron level will invite further cells that mature and carry more oxygen to the tissues of the body resulting in more and more energy.

Technically you should feel much better energy within 2-3 weeks

Remind me what your full iron panel was before the infusion?

Did you have a few iron panels over time before getting the infusion?

Is this your first?

I’ve had that sensation a few times recently - never sure if it’s because I switch from laptop to phone… or a phone update.

If it did it would likely be a phone setting on your phone, or one pushed by an update.

My son-in-law has to have regular iron infusions and it usually takes him a couple of days to a week to recover from each one, but then he gets an energy spike until he needs the next one at which stage he’ll go downhill quite quickly again.

It takes around 3 weeks for an infusion to fully kick in, but you might gradually feel better leading up to that.

I’m curious as to how it took 2 hours - but I see you’re in the US. Mine takes around 20mins here in the UK then they keep you in the clinic waiting room for another 15 just to be sure of no adverse reactions.

I have no idea why it takes 2 hours first time I have ever done an infusion … first 15 mins was a little bit of iron then I sat for 20 minutes to see if I had any reactions and then they finished the bag… I think maybe it was a slow drip and thats why it took so long.

I also had my Zolendronic infusion on Wednesday but it only took 30 minutes. I must admit I felt more energetic the following days

it takes time to fully recover from a iron deficiency, it also depends where your levels where when you started treatment….. you can control how quick you raise your levels depending if you take tablets or have an infusion, but you can’t control how quick your body heals, you have poorly formed RBC and Haemoglobin at the minute, but your body takes 3 to 4 months to replace all of your cells with nice new healthy ones using all of the extra iron….

You’ll feel abit better every week, but full improvements will be seen at 3 to 4 month

Small things…finding you are being able to brush your hair for two mins is quite an achievement ! Remember back to the time you realised you had started to sit down ( on the loo) to brush your hair and teeth, and in my case often read a few pages of book in between to rest and pace the effort!

Actually I do remember having to this …

I'm in the UK and had an infusion last year. Treatment took an hour with a 30 wait afterwards to ensure I was ok. It was my first one and I was quite ill, so they were more cautious. I had a significant iron deficiency, ferritin had dropped to 30 and transferrin saturation % was 18.

The haematologist said it takes roughly 6 weeks for the body to fully absorb the iron. I had a case of iron flu initially and ended up feeling a lot worse afterwards, not in any way better.

Not what you're looking for?
