Iron infusion advice please

I had an iron infusion (ferinject) on Friday afternoon and I'm suffering with side effects.

Bad stomach cramps, nausea, headache and flu like body aches and weakness. Any idea how long it will last? Should I see my GP?

This is the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) for ferinject :

I don't know whether you would have seen it. People are rarely given the PIL for one-off injections they receive (in my limited experience), so I doubt you have seen it.

It describes the side effects you might get from the injection and which of them warrant a visit to a hospital or a doctor.

Nothing I've read or the Doctor has been able to tell me roughly how long the side effects will last. I was hoping it would have gone by now. Feeling lousy and fed up. I wouldn't mind but no improvement with my legs so far 😢

I hope you feel better soon. And make sure you have regular blood tests to be sure that you haven't ended up with levels of iron which are too high.

I've never had an iron infusion, so I have no idea how long any after-effects may last.

Hi, I had a Ferinject infusion last Wednesday and have been feeling awful since: nausea, headaches, migraine, one incidence of vomiting ... Feeling any better yet? X

9 days on and I'm still not 100% but better than I was. Main problem is the nausea and stomach pain still. On the plus side legs were a bit better last night so maybe it's starting to kick in and work? Who knows. Will keep you up dated x

Hi, thanks for replying. How's the nausea? I'm still struggling but am hopeful that the headaches are on the way out! Do you know how long this is supposed to last (the side-effects) and if it's to be expected? I can't find anything worthwhile online! Hope you feel 100% soon! Denise xo
