I’ve just got my thyroid results back from a blood test I had yesterday, I have a lump near my scar from when I had a thyriodactomy about 36yrs ago. When I had the blood test I had my 150mg of levothyroxine. The test has come back normal. Results attached

If you took your levothyroxine before the test this gives false high Ft4 result

Free T4 (fT4) 16.1 pmol/L (11 - 23) 42.5%

Your Ft4 is 42% through range in this test

If you had tested correctly with last dose Levo 24 hours back test Ft4 would have been even lower

How do you feel

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

When were vitamin levels last tested

What vitamin supplements are you taking

What was reason for thyroidectomy?

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

I have Pernicious anemia so have B12 injections every 10 weeks. I also take vitamin for 50+ yrs old, tablets. I also have iron tablets prescribed

I had a thyroidectomy because I had a large neck lump and overactive.

Multivitamins never recommended on here

Always stop any supplements that contain biotin 5-7 days before any blood tests
