-----------
41 year old female, has been ill for a long time with long covid and reaction to vaccine.
Previously put on B12 injections, iron, D, probiotics etc which has helped a bit.
Two years ago, did a Medichecks full thyroid test and all was fine. (I don't know what those results were, so as we know, 'fine' may not be applicable in our expereince!)
----------
However, a recent thyroid test showed:
Free Tri-iodothyronine (FT3)
Normal range: 2.4 - 6.0 pmol/L RESULT 5.9
Free Thyroxine (FT4)
Normal range: 9.0 - 19.1 pmol/L RESULT 14
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
Normal range: 0.35 - 4.94 mIU/L RESULT 0.1
---------
Now on Carbimazole
Am awaiting the following info which I'll add as soon as I can:
Dose of carbimazole currently taking, whether the test above was done before or after being on carbimazole, and time of day test was done. Current symptoms.

Should ALSO be tested (but are not unique to Graves)
*IF* this was a diagnostic blood test - before carbimazole. I’m my opinion - it was too soon to commence carbimazole as frees are not above range. Graves typically have levels over 2x normal range BUT it’s not how over range FT4 & FT3 are - it’s if the over active levels are transient or likely to continue.
If test is since starting carbimazole it usual to reassess & adjust dose by 6 weeks. Therefore likely needs a reduction.
Carbimazole & blood test timings are not as critical as when replacement taken.
It lowers immediate production for a period of time but the effect on FT4 & FT3 levels is much more gradual.
These results don't seem to provide that answer....FT3 may be almost top of range... but not excessively over
Would FT4 not also be higher if hyperthyroid
I think we'd need more info re medication and doses taken.
As you infer "fine"is not a diagnosis!
Her FT4 is low at 45.50% thro the ref range....yet FT3 is sitting at 97.22%
I have read that (some)patients with covid have lower FT4 and TSH
Research indicates that amongst other issues thyroid dysfunction, including changes in thyroid gland function, thyroiditis, and autoimmune thyroid disease can result from Covid
Could this high FT3 be the consequence of changes in thyroid gland function, with the result that the thyroid gland has started to pump out extra T3 to allow the body to function..... while the thyroid is failing
We don't know her dose(s) or symptoms but I wonder how her current medication is affecting these results
Sorry Red Apple...mind like a grasshopper....such as they are I offer my thoughts.
Possible Central Hypothyroidism and DIO 1 mutation????????Mutation causing higher FT3 % to FT4 %????????? Possible poor signalling mutations lots of the forum members have including me??? Blue Horizon Thyroid Genetic Tendency test would exclude or include these possibilities????
