Hi,I have an interactive thyroid and for many years now.

I have just recently had blood tests completed. twice now and have now been told I need to have more completed.

The first time I was informed that my B12 was 2000 so had another blood test completed.

I have now been informed my folic is low and my Calcium is high. I am having more bloods completed on Thursday.

Can anyone give me advice on this as I am getting very little information.

How much levothyroxine are you taking

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Is your hypothyroidism autoimmune

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

you are legally entitled to copies of your test results

Hi,Thank you for your reply. I have always taken the same brand since I was first diagnosed.

I was also on HRT on which I stopped taking due to problems such as really bad palpations and feeling as if my head was not right

I was also on vitamin d at the time. I have since been off these for 2 months.

So you need to get levels retested

Many thyroid patients need to supplement vitamin D everyday

Even government recommends everyone in U.K. supplements daily from October to end of April
