Morning all, hoping to hear if anyone has worked successfully with an endo based in London/south east who specialise in thyroid AND menopause? Private or NHS.... Thank you.
As per the rules of the board, please direct message me with these.
Need help starting on hrt at same time as starting thyroid meds (which feels very complicated and hard to know which bit is working etc).

Am wondering if your symptoms necessitating HRT could be helped by treating the thyroid ? Thinking of the Endocrine system as an orchestra then the Thyroid is the conductor 🌻
I have not taken HRT - am sure others better able to advise will be along soon.
That is v interesting metaphor. This is what's bothering me - what comes first? Should I start trying to sort one or the other first, or both at same time - so many variables. The hot flushes and forgetfulness are killing me at the moment so was going to start with HRT but not sure if that's stupid until the underactive thyroid problems are sorted.....
My own thoughts would be to sort the root cause. I have had a long and complicated medical history and was not diagnosed with Hashimotos until 2005 at 59. Only then did I understand the missing bits of the puzzle ! You can read my bio ....
When we learn that the trillions of cells in our bodies have receptors for T3 hormone we understand the importance of a healthy thyroid and conversion of T4 into T3. The brain has first call !
How are your levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD ? All need to be optimal and not low in the range.
I'm of the same opinion as Marz Start with thyroid and only introduce HRT later down the road when thyroid levels are nearer optimal. I think of thyroid hormones as the god and goddess of all hormones. If thyroid hormones aren't optimal for you, it can hinder the other hormones from working and/or being produced. Symptoms of thyroid hormone deficiency and sex hormone deficiency cross over with eachother.
Unfortunately, you're unlikely to find an endo who truly understands both enough to be worth your precious time and/or money, despite what they might think about their own expertise.
How old are you? Have you had your sex hormones tested to see where you’re at? This can be useful particularly if you’re post menopausal: it can confirm your status.
That said, I personally hammered away at various HRT regimes while in all likelihood my problems were mostly to do with an undiagnosed thyroid condition. I’m now on both, still not completely out of the woods (far from it!) but I’m a strong advocate for HRT because of the benefits (bone, heart, brain to name just 3). I know it isn’t for everyone.
Are you currently on any thyroid replacement?
As slowdragon suggests, post your most recent thyroid test results and the collective wisdom of the forum will do it’s thing.
