hi I’ve just been given hrt and in the panic of wondering what new hell awaits me, I haven’t thought how does the patch work with my levothyroxine cos even if I apply the first patch four hours after my levothyroxine it will still be there the next day ? Help or am I over thinking it

It will be fine, because the hormone from the patch doesn't go into your stomach, so won't come into contact with your levo at any point. :)

Goes to show how bad GPs are at moment as this time last year I started HRT but the pills and they never told me about not taking it with levo. I went under active for a while and had no idea why and felt really ill. How long are you meant to leave it? I asked for patches but they won't give it to me.

Try not to panic or expect the worst - the patch is delivering body identical hormones and should make you feel a lot better if you’ve been experiencing peri symptoms. Of course sometimes the dose/type of HRT is a bit of trial and error. I’ve felt absolutely fine on HRT with no side effects no interaction with Levo or anything else. I’m taking Lenzetto and Utrogestan so a different method but the patch is probably better in some ways (Lenzetto can be a bit unpredictable). Good luck!

Hi

I take hrt in tablet form as I couldn’t get on with other forms. I also take levo and lio - I just take several hours apart. The only issue I had was that I needed an increase in thyroid meds. It might be an idea to get your thyroid levels checked in a couple of months when everything has settled down if you feel under or over medicated.

Trandermal HRT does not interfere with your levothyroxine. However HRT taken orally may reduce your thyroxine level and may require an increase in your dose of levo. If you are going to take oral HRT I suggest you check your thyroid levels in about 6w.
