Maybe call 111. Or maybe try to make an urgent appointment with an optician? Or even go to A&E. Someone needs to check with the proper equipment.
The pharmacy may be right - I certainly don't know. Despite that being a pretty excellent photo in the circumstances, all it does is make me feel incredibly ignorant.
I'd also point out that many of us cannot tolerate preservative in eye drops. Even if we tolerate preservative initially, we tend to develop sensitivity over time. Ends up that the drops can cause as much (or more) discomfort as they relieve.
Please go directly to an optician and ask to be seen, there and then, and sit and wait for the optician to take a look at the back of the eye when s/he can then advise the appropriate next step - alternatively if your hospital has an eye department - go there as an emergency patient today.
Please take a look at this article. The pharmacist was correct it is a common occurrence and is nothing to worry about. I’ve had it happen a few times.
The only thing I would add is if you suffer from blood pressure then I would either take it if you have a machine or ask a pharmacy to do so as sometimes an increase in BP can cause it so that would be worth checking.
Thank you Star13 . I have read that yesterday, but I just feel a sting feeling... and I have an family history of diabetes and so on in family, usually my blood pressure is low... but could be a spike of blood pressure.. not sure ... rung my opticians and they said is better to be checked by the opticians anyway. Thanks
I have had this happen a few times. Fragility of the eye (dryness) itself due to hypo I think - mainly. However like everyone says a proper check would not go amiss.
RVI in Newcastle upon Tyne runs an A&E department especially for eye issues - if you are anywhere near. It sees patients from quite far and wide.
Thanks - you can never be sure with eyes - and its always best to get checked out :
When my eyes were with what was described as conjunctivitis by the doctor I went to my optician on my next day off and after looking behind my eyes he popped me in a taxi to Moorfields Eye Hospital where I had laser treatment for holes and tears in both eyes - scary time and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Many years ago, I thought my eyes were just a bit red and dry. But by next day I couldn't open them and ended up being taken to hospital. It was iritis. Such experiences probably make us extra aware/sensitive to eye stories!
