I have Hashimotos and wondered if any of you lovely people with this also have this happen to you.My left eyelid is kind of flickering and has been on and off for the last 4 weeks, it's not noticable if I look at it in the mirror but when I try sleep I can definitely feel it. Yesterday it was watering and running all morning. Think it might be dry eye. It's not like the usual twitching I get where you can actually see the lid moving, it's like a milder version!
It's causing my health anxiety to go into overload today hence the post!

Hi, I have dry eyes and dry Mouth....My right eye blinks because maybe it's the driest of the 2. I bought a Halo eye mask (heat in microwave for 30 seconds) and eyelid wipes *preservative free* by eye doctor from Amazon. They both help to soothe the eyes a lot, the eye mask certainly helps put moisture back into the eyes. Do you know if you suffer from dry eyes, blepharitis etc? I also have Hashimoto's.
I would recommend preservative free drops like HycoSan or Hyloforte for dry eye (use liberally to alleviate symptoms). I’ve had an eye twitch with low potassium, so see if eating bananas helps. It’s also worth seeing an optician if it continues. Definitely check key thyroid vitamin levels (ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D) as having these (plus thyroid medication) optimal is key to alleviating many thyroid symptoms.
High anxiety has been my worst thyroid symptom and always flares if thyroid medication or key vitamins are not optimal for me.
I previously suffered from eye twitching. Both eyes would be affected but one eyelid was excessive.
I started taking magnesium as I have a number of other conditions suggesting low magnesium a common factor (migraine, diabetes, propranolol use & long term untreated hyperthyroid). The twitching rarely happens now & I really believe taking magnesium supplement resolved it.
I initially used Bisglycinate magnesium which was good but now use powdered citrate magnesium in a drink before sleep.
Remedies for dry eye can help too. You have tiny glands in lash line which gives the eye a lipid oil layer. These can get blocked which causes the eye water to dry.
Warming eye mask & gentle massage towards lash line is helping at unclogging glands & this will prevent running eyes. Use preservative free eye wipes / drops. Some like to use drops in day & gel at night, but I use carbomer gel eg Ocufresh gel which is a lighter gel which melts quickly in eye.
I think the severe watering of your eyes could be the start of developing "dry eye". I have dry eye but for some years before it started I had extremely watery eyes.
The "water" from watery eyes is not exactly the same substance as tears. It isn't as good at cleaning the eyes as proper tears are, so a good eye drop product is worth using.
I used to get twitchy eye - imperceptible to see. I think a combination of over tired and dehydrated played into it and I haven’t had it for years but I too take magnesium citrate and cramps are a thing if the past too. Hadn’t even thought about it 🤔
