I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about five years ago and have been taking levothyroxine ever since. While my blood hormone levels are within range, I still have the same symptoms, namely weight gain, mild depression, a lack of energy, feeling cold all the time and hair loss.
After reading about it online, I asked my GP for a trial of liothyronine, and he said only a specialist could prescribe it. So then I asked for a referral to a endocrinologist, and he said no because my blood levels are in range! Frankly that made me angry. How many other serious lifelong conditions are there where you never get to see a specialist???
Anyway, I've looked at seeing an endocrinologist privately, but even a video consultation is £150. I just can't afford it.
I really want to try liothyronine for a couple of months to see if it increases my sense of well-being, energy levels, etc - all the stuff that blood tests can't measure! Does anyone have a reliable non-prescription source they could PM me, please?
TIA!
