Reliable non-prescription source of Levothyroxine, recommendations, please. PM only, please.

The cynic in me has a nagging suspicion that the private specialist I saw has spotted a great way to make money. She has started me on 25mcg of Mercury Levothyroxine, and has now increased the price of follow up appointments to a whopping £100 for 15 minutes! I think I now know enough to start treating myself (with the support of this fabulous forum). I’d be very grateful for recommendations by PM for reliable supplies of T4 that don’t require a prescription.

Just wondering…Why don’t you ask your GP to prescribe it

see Horsey07 's previous posts .. her TG antibodies are positive, but TPOab are not , and TSH is still within range, fT4 still within range . so they can't /won't prescribe yet.

FT4= 14.3 (12-22)

FT3 = 4.73 (3.1-6.8)

TSH =3.51 (0.27-4.2)

TG ab = 318 (<115).

TPO ab <9 (<34).

Essential you work on improving very low B12 and low ferritin

Likely low due to being vegetarian

High TG antibodies can be linked to Pernicious Anaemia or Rheumatoid arthritis

Did GP test for Pernicious Anaemia before starting any B vitamins

As per my last post I am supplementing B12, D3+K2, C, Selenium, Zinc, and iron, but thanks for the reminder. No B vitamins were started prior to my most recent tests and the pernicious anaemia society said my levels were not low enough.

So you must self supplement to improve B12 and vitamin B complex too

That’s exactly what I’m doing in accordance with the thyroid doctor’s instructions.

If my GP was willing to prescribe it I wouldn’t be asking for details of other suppliers.

My inner cynic is saying the same thing Horsey07 with the same private specialist as you and the same suspect starter dose. Along with the whopping follow-up rate I am also being charged 25 pounds each for a letter to the GP (which is actually just my consultation notes with the addition of the logo at the top - obviously a very exclusive logo!), a letter for my PIP claim and an ultrasound referral. Another 75 pounds without blinking. These people have us over a barrel and it doesn't sit right with me that so much money is being made from our desperation and misery.

Let me know what these lovely people recommend to save posting the same thing.

I’m afraid that private medicine in all sectors is profiting enormously as the service which the NHS is able to offer declines. I recently paid £230 for a 15 minute consultation which I was told would be a 50 minute consultation.

I could cite many more examples. Buyer beware.

You will get more information and support on this forum than paying someone such an enormous amount for a consultation by joining Thyroiduk.org.uk who is behind this forum.

Thyroiduk was initiated by Lyn Mynott due to her miserable treatment and being so unwell/undiagnosed.

If you'd like to become a member this is information - the more members the stronger our 'voice'. Lyn works in the background by meeting with MPs etc to try to change the attitudes of those who are supposed to be at the 'top' of endocrinology problems.

Members on this forum and some of them are excellent at their advice and knowledge.

There's nothing like the feeling when on the correct thyroid hormones of the relief that fills our body and symptoms resolve.

That’s great, and when/if I feel well enough to campaign I’ll be happy to. Unfortunately that’s unlikely until I find adequate treatment, hence my question about where to source T4 without prescription. I’d love to know the feeling you refer to, sadly unless I can find the relevant information that seems unlikely.
