Hello has anyone had tightness in throat like pressure feeling? I can breathe and swallow ok but it's so annoying. I've been suffering severe fatigue and feeling like my body is full of led my GP continues to take blood and did mention I have hyperthyroidism before Christmas but didn't give me any medication or advice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated please 🥺

Doubt your doctor is correct! But, best thing to do is ask at reception for print-outs of your blood test results so that you can see for yourself. It's your legal right to have them. :)

Sorry I think I meant hypothyroidism but these symptoms have been causing me many bed days and my GP has done nothing for me now the pressure on my thyroid is so uncomfortable I'm at my wits end

GPs just don't care about thyroid. They think it's no big deal. They haven't a clue how it affects us because they never listen when we tell them.

Yes, far more likely to be hypo than hyper. Had you been hypo he would have done something because they think that's more dangerous than being hypo.

So, advice is still the same: get print-outs of your blood test results, post them and the ranges on here, and then we can advise you what to do next. :)

I’ve experienced something similar. I can feel something most of the time on the rhs (no left thyroid lobe). When I did too much the pressure worsened but after increase in Levo and trying to optimise vitamins this doesn’t occur as much…still fatigued though and can still feel the ‘ lump’. A couple of weeks ago I had an USS which showed ‘several small nodules less than 4mm’ and too small to investigate further.

Very similar here. I have experienced thus twice now, both times when I became undermedicated.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

sounds like you might have an inflamed thyroid that’s causing pressures on your throat,it’s only when u can’t breathe well or you can swallow food properly that’s when u need to go A&E, your doctors are useless, just like most of the doctors that ignore us, I’ve got a goitre and u can feel the lump,my doc referred me for an ultrasound scan, if your bloods are pointing at hypothyroidism then u need medication, the medication can help the inflamed thyroid go down in size, as soon as you have ur blood results up load them here and Adam will let you know what u need to do, in terms of your neck I would demand ur doctor to get you an ultrasound scan booked to see what’s going on ,

I feel for you. Early on in my illness I had that. Sometimes it was so bad I could hardly talk. I went to my GP at the time (who was a condescending nitwit) who announced 'you are having a panic attack my dear'. Anyhow, he would not entertain the idea I was hyperthyroid until my TSH hit the magic number of 10, even though I felt awful, like you had bed-bound days, but I was left untreated for so long my hair was falling out and my fingernails were falling off. I would suggest you get your blood test results, and I would ask for a trial of T4, but don't be fobbed off with a 25mcg start. They should put you on 50mcg and test you in 6 weeks and then probably increase.

Joylene123,

Welcome to our forum,

Many of us have experienced similar symptoms from a goitre. This is an inflamed thyroid gland that is being attacked by autoimmune dysfunction.

This can cause thyroid hormones to have large releases or be blocked, meaning metabolism and emotions are all over the place and we feel extremely unwell often with fatigue and flu-like symptoms.

Doctors risk mistakenly reading labs as hyperthyroid or hyporthyroid and misdiagnosing as we literally swing between the two. Therefore, it is important to have regular full thyroid panels to assess what is going on.

Good test advice already given by SlowDragon and if you want to read more about thyroid autoimmune disease I recommend 'The Root Cause' by Isabella Wentz.

I felt the same symptoms when I had hyperthyroidism. Just wiped out, so tired. I found it difficult to swallow and had to move my head down. Eventually had my 95% of my thyroid removed and found out it had wrapped itself around my windpipe. Keep on at the GP and ask for a copy of your blood results.
