Sigma Pharm Liothyronine: Can anyone let me know... - Thyroid UK
Sigma Pharm Liothyronine
itsmeyes3 I get Sigma Pharma on NHS scrip which is sent to Springfield Pharmacy in Richmond on T the meds are then sent in the post.
I was recently asked by gp pharmacy if I would consider changing to Roma capsules, no doubt a money saving exercise. I said NO Way. I do have issues with fillers, especially acacia powder. Hope you get some SP
Thanks very much I will give them a try as my prescription specifically says Sigma Pharm Liothyronine, however they keep giving me Morningside as they are unable to source elsewhere.
Sigmapharm liothyronine used to be a special import only product.
More recently, it has been produced especially for UK and Ireland, and is licensed in the UK. However, it is supplied in Viatris branding. My documents have some details.
helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:
helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines
helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.
This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.
The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.
Hello there, do you get 5 or 25 mcg pills of sigmapharm I recently enquired at Springfield pharmacy and I was told by the man himself they only do sigmapharm in 5mcg tablets NO 25mcgs, shame would of given him my precious prescription for that. Oh well keep looking.
Sigmapharm is available in the UK in 5 and 20 microgram dosages. Not 25 micrograms.
The Sigmapharm product in the UK appears to have the same ingredients as the US product but has different markings.
All this is in my medicines document - linked in my earlier reply.
Hi thank you. I don't understand why Dr sam of Springfield pharmacy couldn't of just said they have it in 20mcgs I could of gotten my 25mcg prescription changed to 20 mcg pills.Waste of my time.
Thank you
Maybe he didn't notice?
He could have searched for "sigmapharm 5 liothyronine". Which would have found the 5 and, if it existed, also the 25, but not a 20 product.
But I actually blame your prescriber more than anyone else. It is plain ridiculous to write prescriptions for products which don't exist or cannot be obtained. And it is up to the prescriber to maintain awareness of the medicines they prescribe.
I have always had 25s for over 10 years and had them imported. They've always been great, no problem. However of late it's proving difficult to get them. So if it continues I will have to change to 20s.
My gp has been very kind and accommodating to me.
Things change I guess and I have to change too to get whatever I can .
Thank you for your help
In the UK there are NO 25 microgram liothyronine products with licenses. If your prescription is written for 25 micrograms, your only options are special imports, compounded to order or get a new prescription.
Elizajoe102, I get 5mcgm tablets and currently take 12.5mcgm per day rather than 15 mcgm. 5mcgm +half of 5 in am and then 5mcgm in evening. With Thybon Henning I took 20mcgm per day (10 +10)
Hi there, so that works well for you, very good. I take 62.50 mcg in total 25mcg 7am. 25mcg 1pm. Then the last half of a 25mcg =12.50mcg thats roughly cut in half at 4pm. That's it.However if I have to change brands like recently, it messes everything up. And I end up needing 65mcg because it's usually a weaker liothyronine somehow, for what ever reason that is. Drives me nuts.
I have to remind myself to just get on with my lot and be grateful because there are poor people suffering with all sorts.
Thank you
Only 5mcg
