Hi I’m looking for some advice on the brands of liothyronine please,

I usually get teva but this time they’ve given me viatris,I think that’s what it’s called,and they contain gelatin so I’ve took them back,I’ve taken them back before and they replaced them with teva only this time they’re saying that teva isn’t showing on their system and it might be getting discontinued,I’ve got to contact the gps and get another prescription and go and try another chemist.

My worry is that they’re just saying it due to cost so I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on this please, I’ve been feeling good recently so I’m not really wanting anything to upset this.

I have it written on my prescription ‘Mercury Pharma’ only as I’ve had bad reactions to Roma. It may be worth getting your GP to stipulate which brand/ brands are suitable for you.

What is Mercury Pharma, my little bottle just says teva so I’m wondering if she’s been looking for the wrong thing🤷‍♀️

It’s just a brand name. If you tolerate Teva best, ask your GP to write ‘Teva only’ on your prescription.

That’s what the pharmacist said so I’ve called the gps and I’ve to call back tomorrow to see what the pharmacy team say, they know about the gelatin though as that’s why I couldn’t have the capsules when they tried to put me on them.

There is nothing on Teva's site to suggest their liothyronine is being discontinued.

It could be that the pharmacy is unwilling to handle it as it costs them more to obtain than the NHS has agreed to pay for it. Which pharmacy/chain?

I have just received Sigma in place of Teva….the pharmacy are unable to get Teva for some reason at the moment. This has happened before due to supply chain problems. I don’t believe it’s about cost.

I take Teva only because of filler reactions. However I do have sufficient to tide me over and I’m not sure if I’ll take the Sigma. Given that the pharmacy only dispose of them and not reissue, I’ll keep them ‘just in case’.

Yes I discovered that when I went to another pharmacy,they said teva wasn’t coming up for them either,I managed to get Morningside which I’ve had before.

If you do not know if you tolerate the Sigmapharm, it doesn't help much as an emergency reserve. Imagine you need it, take one, then feel awful - and don't have the reserve you thought you had.

Might be an idea to try one? Good or bad, you know where you are.

At the same time, I do understand any reluctance to take something which even could make you feel bad.

To be honest the only reason I’ve kept the, is because the pharmacy are going to junk an unopened bottle of Sigma….i have about a 2 month reserve and doubt I’ll really need these. Only if really necessary will I try them.
