T3 Brand

Hi All today my chemist says they cannot supply my T3 Morningside brand as they would have to pay an extra £65 per month as the NHS will only reimburse the cost of the generic brand TEVA. I have bad reactions if I take teva and so am stuck.

My GP is happy to write the prescription stipulating Morningside brand but unless I pay the extra £65 my pharmacist won't supply it. Does anyone know any other suppliers of T3 please? I asked my pharmacist they said Mercury are just as expensive as Morningside surly there are other suppliers.

I get Morningside supplied by the NHS. Not only that but they also supply me with 2 x 5 tablets of a daily dose, rather than having me chop a 10mcg tablet which would be cheaper.

I get my prescription filled by Boots.

If you have a co-operative GP, you do have other options.

The least expensive is Roma but the prescription would have to be for capsules. (And you don't say if you split your tablets.) £55 for 5 or 20 micrograms, £65 for 10 micrograms.

I do not think it is allowed for you to pay £65 extra. That could open the door to all sorts of abuses of the system. And, if I had to pay, I'd want to have some proof that it was real. Can't see the pharmacy letting you see their invoices, etc. If they are offering that possibility, get it in writing. (I think they'll squirm if you even ask.)

Morningside 20 is here (but not prices!):

Thank you so much it may take me a few days to read all this but I am so glad I can ask you guys it is so terrible that we have to fight for our own health and try to make ourselves as knowable as possible in order that we are not duped I can''t even begin to know who's telling the truth any more. thank you so much

Thank you helvella I went into the chemist to collect my prescription back and I spoke to the owner Mr Patel the one that wanted £65 per prescription and said to him by the way you can get Morningside from the NHS and the price difference is very little, he said no I can't get it unless I pay and I don't want to be out of pocket. I said its not a case of you can't get its a case of your supplier wont get it and you can't be bothered to look for a different supplier that will get it for you, he smiled and said well we only have two customers for this medication so I said that's fine but don't tell customers you can't get it and ask them to pay for it! tell them the truth you can't be bothered to look for a supplier who will get it for you.

I do wonder if he would have taken my money and then found a supplier and pocketed my money I think there should be a law against this sort of thing. It's disgusting. sorry rant over.

The Thyroid UK website lists pharmacies which many of us use. Here's the list

thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

The list shows which ones can dispense NHS prescriptions. Ring round and see who can supply the brand you want and if they charge anything extra.

The NHS pays the same price regardless of brand - 20mcg tablets….currently £59 per 28 tablets

The pharmacy (might possibly) be looking at maximising a higher profit if they can source the cheapest brand

Try a different pharmacy…..small independent pharmacy may be more helpful

NHS drugs tariff

Choose online list ….

Put liothyronine in search box …..

Choose “Part VIIIA products L”

Scroll down to liothyronine…..lists prices

I agree with others go to a different pharmacy. I think what your pharmqcist has told you with an expectation fro you to pay the difference isnt correct. Sounds dodgy to me. I definately go elsewhere. And failing a result with local pharmacists, as others have said, thyroid uk have a list of pharmacies online.

hi eghjm100

I also get 5mcg 2x daily on nhs. Interestingly it was the pharmacist in the shop who wasn't prepared to issue the original prescription for what i think was thybon henning. Endo wanted me to split tablets. The pharmacist told me she thought this was unacceptable as it was potentially difficult to achieve a therapeutic dose. She made the endo change his prescription! 😅 she also said she didn't care about the cost as it was a necessary prescription and she sees so much unnecessary ones!!! Hope you got sorted!

Thank you, what worries me is that the owner of the independent Chemist could have asked me to pay the cost and then gone a sourced it from NHS supplier and pocketed my cash it leaves it very open to misuse I am trying other local chemists but will use the list of suppliers that was given me from this site thank goodness we have Health Unlocked

I'm the opposite. Teva works for me but I'm getting Morningside. I'm in Scotland too. 😭

Thanks to Health unlocked I was able to find a chemist who was able to provide the Morningside brand of T3 Teva didn't work for me I did report the Chemist that wanted me to pay for it and he had a telephone call from PALS so hopefully he will not do that to anyone else. So a big Thank you to all the moderators on this site for without them I'm not sure what I would have done.
