Hia,im 67 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 9yrs ago and am on 125mcg levothyroxine...i stopped the 25mcg to carry on taking 100mcg as i started to get beyond hot, and sweat literally pours off my head, hands face and whole body..i stopt taking any levothyroxine and the sweats stopt.it was wonderful but after a month i just had to lay in bed so energless and like a clockwork toy that had wound down..so i bit the bullet and started taking the 100mcg again..i had energy,i could move, hoover, cook, even sing, but oh my god the vile menopause mimic sweating is back but even worse.I feel as though im going to melt and i have to put my fan on full blast, windows open and its freezing cold weather outside..December 9th so you know its winter wooly time ..Ive got a new doctor after 55yrs at my old surgery, and this new one has no empathy,is cold and aloof to the point of rudeness and it just pees me off waiting over an hour or more on the phone for an appointment every day.Im fagged out and ready to drop to be honest.Ive got severe diabetic neuropathy in my legs and feet that burn baby burn and make my life a living hell,so i do not want to be in agony with that and then have to sit on towels with a fan on as my head drip drip drips sweat all over me like im stood in a shower. Its ruining my life and truly i just can't carry on..im not being over dramatic saying that, but im sweaty betty if i take the tablets, but i just dont function if i dont take it...Im actually falling to sleep as i type this.its horrendous and soul destroying..Anyone got useful advice for me? I beg you to try and help me make this stop.sorry for the long ramble..

Hot hot hot.
Hi Hettywainthrop
That's dreadful what you're going through, in addition to having such an uncaring dr.
Have you changed the brand of levothyroxine you're taking?
Or, has the brand of levothyroxine changed its fillers?
I'm sure there will be people come along with more advice, other ideas.
Wishing you the best.
Do you have any recent blood test results? It might well be worth you doing a private blood test SlowDragon might give you a few details on how to do this.
Have you considered the idea of lowering your dose a little to give some relief rather than stopping completely which as you have found is awful? Maybe do the blood test first to get a base line.
Hia,thank you for replying and no ive not got any recent blood test results and i think this new doctors just totally forgot i exist to be honest and i just am too tired and fed up to have to wake up every single day to start ringing up for an appointment on the dot of 8 and never get one..other times ive only just got off to sleep and by the time i wake ip theres not a chance in hell i can get an appointment at all..im going to look into the private blood test thing as you suggested and from tomorrow im definitely going to try taking half the tablet so im then only having 50mcg and see how it affects me..fingers crossed or its back to being normal..is there any such thing?..but winding down like a dying battery..i suppose thats what i must be when i think about it..oh well alls i can do is keep calm and carry on as per usual..ive even decided to have a few cans of guiness tonight as my sister and me are toasting a drink to our dad who died 38yrs ago...so cheers for replying and at least i'll be able to have a laugh later on..dread tomorrow tho..not the sweating..oh no..the hangover!!! Lol..best wishes,hetty..xx
Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking
You need FULL thyroid and vitamin testing 6-8 weeks after being on constant UNCHANGING dose and brand of levothyroxine
What vitamin supplements are you taking
When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested
You have type 2 diabetes?
Are you on Metformin?
Have you had thyroid antibodies tested to see if cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
Low vitamin levels extremely likely after stopping levothyroxine and can take months to recover levels
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Hi Hetty. Does your surgery only have one doctor? If there are others you can make an appointment with them, you don’t need to stick to the one you’re registered with. Sorry if it seems obvious, but some people don’t know 🙂
Will your GP test your vitamin D? I was sweating badly - mainly around my hairline - and decided it might have been linked to very low vit d as I’ve supplemented and don’t suffer any more.
This sounds terrible! Are you checking your labs through all the ups and downs?
A pharmacist in the family suggested PARoxetine 7.5mg before bed. I am nearly 71 still hot flashing with menopause but had immediate relief. I did a lot of investigation before getting the Rx. I have no anxiety which it is the main thing it is for. I have had no side effects. It is time for me to get off hormones and this has helped the transition. It may help you since thyroid meds are hormones. Please have labs done to zero in one the level of thyroid meds that is right for you. There are so many catastophic things that can happen if you are overdosing for the energy. I will pm you for an energy suggestion.
