I have just had my first ever positive HPT after 5 years of TTC and 2 failed IVF cycles. I have calculated that I am approximately 6 weeks pregnant.
I was diagnosed with hashimoto Thyroditis roughly 2 years ago and have been on 100mcg levothyroxine since. My last bloods came back normal in early November.
My concern is that when I found out about my pregnancy couple of days ago, I called my GP to ask for bloods to check all ok, he said I will need to do a self referral for antenatal care and a midwife will check everything. When submitting my referral it said can takes up to 2-4 weeks to get an appointment.
I called my endo but he is on holiday and his secretary said she will let him know when he returns.
Shall I get a private blood test done in the mean time? It’s taken so long to get to this stage that I don’t want to risk anything or would it be ok to wait?

when were vitamin levels last tested and what vitamin supplements are you taking
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

There’s no point getting tests done privately if doctor doesn’t take notice of them if you need a dose change from the practice.
They need to test before conception if possible, when pregnancy is confirmed ie now, and at booking appointment. Obviously if you are under care of an endocrinologist there may be some nuances also to that, but from the GP that’s what they have to do.
Bottom line, they need to do tests now as pregnancy is confirmed.

But Interestingly I got my old surgery to accept my private blood tests 😉 but I did bludgeon them with a 6 page report, scientific references and told them emphatically their test was inferior by virtue of how much was left off and NOT tested. I also explained how percentages within range was a completely legitimate way to compare results (although the ideal is to use just one lab). Meta analyses don’t have the luxury of using the same lab. I bet they are sighing with relief we have moved. 🤪
I likened the NHS thyroid panel to a form of medical catchphrase.
I used to get the reports I submitted scanned in a week before by the lovely reception folk who I treated with the utmost kindness and told them so much information they didn’t know what to do with it. Actually one lass had family suffering with hypothyroidism- I pointed her in the direction of Thyroid UK.
You did this before and during pregnancy and your doctor didn’t do the tests required or you did more?

You are absolutely right - no this was just accepting private tests in the absence of them doing tests for me. I never had children... I'm off to amend straight away.
