Ferritin is far too low at 14

No B12, folate or vitamin D

See/contact GP and request/insist on FULL iron panel test for anaemia and B12, folate and vitamin D tests BEFORE considering reducing levothyroxine

Ft4 is already only halfway through range

If GP won’t test, get tested privately

Low ferritin

Eating iron rich foods like red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

It is always so low with me

And no clue how to rise it.

Not even a comment from gp about it. And i do suffer from hair loss..

As for the reduced dose i

Did noticed recently that I feel the heart beet in my neck and now third day in reduced dose I don’t feel it anymore.. so maybe it was a right thing to do.

Hopefully you haven’t reduced dose levothyroxine yet?

Ft4 must not drop as this is what crosses placenta to baby

How far along is your pregnancy?

charlee23 profile image
charlee23 in reply to SlowDragon

Well i was told to reduce.. so i did now for three days.. but why is my T3 so high then?

Doesn’t this mean that I do convert it well and that the dose is too high?

Im in my week 7 and few days so far..

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to charlee23

So the baby is totally reliant on your levothyroxine for its development until at least 3-4 months gestation

charlee23 profile image
charlee23 in reply to SlowDragon

Yes that is correct.. so as t3 is over the range should I continue with the reduced dose of 100?

I will try to get iron tested but in the mean time im confused of what to do

GP should do FULL iron panel test

You may need iron supplements

It would be great to get advise how to raise the ferritin. Especially as I don’t eat red meat many years.

So having in mind t3 is high and tth is low should i continue with 100mg?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to charlee23

Then you can’t be surprised that your iron is always low

Much harder to maintain iron levels without red meat

Also makes it especially important to test B12

Your Ferritin level is dire at just 4.5% through range. Low Ferritin can suggest iron deficiency with or without anaemia. GP should do a full blood count and iron panel. If iron deficiency or anaemia then GP needs to treat and monitor your levels regularly.

I get that.. though I need an answer regards the t3 and 100 mg. As no one is mentioning that this one is high and reduced dose to 100 was correct??

Please help as Im confused:((

Charlee23

I commented on your Ferritin result as I was tagged for that.

though I need an answer regards the t3 and 100 mg. As no one is mentioning that this one is high and reduced dose to 100 was correct??

Maybe because no-one can understand why your T3 is so high with your level of FT4. I don't have Hashi's and my hypothyroidism came after my family was complete so I have no experience of your situation to draw on.

charlee23 in reply to SeasideSusie

This is the same to me as on december the results were completely different. T4 was a little above range ant t3 was on the high side but in range..

And i rang my gp she doesn’t know how to raise the feritin🤦🏼‍♀️

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to charlee23

She needs to do a FULL iron panel test for anaemia as first step

charlee23 profile image
charlee23 in reply to SlowDragon

She doesn’t see the need to do so as everything is in range 🤦🏼‍♀️

If a pregnant woman is not anemic, a serum ferritin level less than 15 ng/mL indicates iron deficiency.7 Some experts believe that in pregnant women who are not anemic, a serum ferritin level between 15 and 30 ng/mL may also indicate iron deficiency.8

This link by UK guidelines

b-s-h.org.uk/media/2891/uk_...

Even though the ferritin level may be influenced by the plasma dilution later in pregnancy, a concentration below 15 μg/l indicates iron depletion in all stages of pregnancy.

And this one

royalberkshire.nhs.uk/Downl...

• Serum Ferritin < 15μg/l (Most reliable test in pregnancy, consider oral iron supplementation if ferritin <30 μg/l)

• MCH<25pgand

• MCV< 80fl

• Transferrin saturation <15%

Recommendation:

An individual approach is preferable, based on results of blood count screening tests
