I discovered to have an under active thyroid about 26 years ago and few small nodules, called cold nodules in the medical jargon.
I am taking thyroid hormone since then, in different doses depending on the hormones level in my blood.
In the last years, the nodules, especially on the left lobe, became bigger, occupying most of the lobe. Moreover, the nodule on the isthmus became visible, growing too. In the right lobe are many small, like sand, nodules.
I have been advised to completely remove the thyroid, but I wish to try RFA to reduce them volume and prevent the complications streaming from parathyroid glands removal( 4 small glands responsible for the body calcium level).

Have the nodules been aspirated (Fine needle aspiration) to test the thyroid cells?
Does the swelling cause physical issues eg pain, swallowing issues, breathing voice issues?
RFA needs to target a specific area, so not suitable for micro nodules.
Do you have any blood test results to share? With lab range. If you are not optimally replaced with thyroid hormones this can worsen thyroid swelling. (TSH, FT4, FT3 TPO & TG antibodies) also important to test folate, ferritin, B12 & vitamin D.
RFA is not widely available where I am and doctors do not routinely refer for this treatment.
