Speechless by my GP’s response

I messaged my GP surgery and requested a full thyroid blood test (not just TSH which is all I’ve been able to get since COVID) as well as iron, vits B and D tests. I’ve been feeling really rotten, and want to look at every potential reason.

Now, bear in mind I have been on HRT (prescribed by them) for 4 years and had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago. And the response suggests I am perimenopausal and asks about my periods - at least I am getting the blood tests but sometimes when you think you aren’t being listened to, it’s because you’re really not. God it’s frustrating.

Ahhh another GP who doesn't know your case history.... 🙄 One would laugh if it wasn't so awful. So so sorry. You could complain to the practise manager. Or you could send another message stating your medical history and asking given you are on HRT how on earth would another perimenopause diagnosis work with already corrected hormone levels with HRT??? Tut tut to them!!

Like the new doctor that asked me if I'd had any surgeries, and I said yes, a hysterectomy. And she wen't on to ask if I get regular smear tests. I said what exactly are they supposed to smear as there's nothing there anymore? And she looked confused. 🤣

Good luck getting blood tests. GPs seem to think that TSH is all that is needed. If they do request T4 and T3 then the laboratory will often decide not to do them anyway.

Unfortunately getting tests done privately is often the only way to get T3.

On an almost daily basis as I read new posts I increasingly wonder what medical students are now being taught....and crucially how willing they are to work hard learn

I realise it's a different world now, but I feel they could learn a great deal from the past about how to improve things in the future.

Looking at, and listening, to their patients would be a good start...as would dismounting from their high horses!

Admittedly they are, thankfully, not all lacking, but the competent appear to be in the minority these days.

I share your frustration.

Oh dear. You will have to write it all on a large banner and wave it in front of your doctor. He might wake up then.

I think you have to laugh or else you'd cry. Just goes to show that they still think everything that ails us is hormonal 😒

A friend had a double mastectomy. GP spotted she had been called for a scan and had not gone, and told her off. She was so cross she lifted her top and showed the fairly new scars and asked how they would scan her.

I used to have awful periods, absolutely flooding. New pad and tampon for the 15 minute drive to the surgery, same again while waiting, twice. I put them in a bag. Got the usual, its only a teaspoon, showed him the bag and apologied for the stain on his chair. His response was to offer me a hysterectomy. I suggested trying a mirena coil first. That worked!

I was left 10 years without my Thyroid being treated i have an Underactive Thyroid (Hashimoto disease) my (TSH) was 13 uIU/mL and raised up to 18 uIU/mL i was 11 stone i put 3 stone on in 2 Months, i had at least over 15 Blood test's which came back as abnormal but my gp ignored them, i reported my Doctors and the Liars said they always use to contact me by phone or letter if my blood test results were not normal, Doctors all all of a certain type and descrimate against people in this country, i changed doctors had 1 or 2 blood test and straight away treated me i have to take Levothyroxine for life now, im still not 100% right, the lack of treatment has effected me but these doctors get away with it some get away with alot worse we just don't hear about it. I feel ill everyday i have Joint stiffness and muscle pain and i Feeling cold that much my Jaw chatters and clinches up. But even now i am treated its the luck of the draw if i see a good Doctor because i am deficante in a lot of Vitamins and all the GP's can say is Oh don't no what can cause that. No duty of care nowa days.
