Inulin pre-biotic - bowels/stomach restoration aid

Hi All,

It seems to me one of the most common hypo complaints revolves around a slighty lazy digestion and slower bowels than desirable with poor absorption of nutrition from the food and a life taken up with researching any buying a load of supplements to mitigate the shortfall.

This has certainly been my experience too.

This may be about to change with the introduction of a daily dose of inulin which is a powder which I mix with the morning smoothie and has been researched for a wide range of health outcomes.

You can google any of this if you are interested.

Whether any of this is correct or not in all our individual cases I do not care than much as it achieves something truly remarkable to combine 2 outstanding features.

Bowel function improves

Following very careful titration up to a really decent dose after a few weeks (this is absolutely essential), everything post digesting a meal suddenly seems to work day in day out without a single off day. Feels like when I was a teenager all over again.

Appetite suppressant

This works pretty much from day 1 (or when you are able to tolerate a reasonable dose) - you simply feel next to no hunger for the rest of the day. Astonishing really.

Are there risks?

There are loads of warnings with this product - won't work if you on a FODMAP diet and are sensitive to certain vegetables with certain sugars ( comes from chicory root), but crikey this is one of the most life changing interventions that I have undertaken since being confirmed as hypo 6 years ago.

If this has been discussed at length here - I have missed it, so hope to get some debate going and see how others find this. I feel it works very synergistically with Berberine :)

Thanks for this information Danielj1 . I wonder if that is why WP Thyroid worked so well for me. Unfortunately it is not on the market now.

Hi Danielj1

I would concur 😊👍 and if you take a slightly heaped teaspoon in water at night it can really help with a good nights sleep. I have used it and actually, I need to again. All my routines went out of whack when we moved. Thanks for the reminder! LOL

This sounds interesting, I was just looking it up, so it's a prebiotic that travels to the bowels...im interested in prebiotics and all things gut microbe. So build it up slowly? How long have you been taking it and how long will you take it for?

This sounds great but I can’t take it … because it has chicory root which annihilates my intestinal tract I can’t even eat foods that have it added and meds…. Unless some brands don’t have chicory root added?

In case others would like to read about it.
