There are no 'meds' that heal the thyroid. Do you mean levo, etc.? That doesn't heal the thyroid. It replaces the hormone that the thyroid can no-longer make. Sounds like another quack doctor, to me.
Its a very sensible book . Like so many of us , talks about testing , gut health , diet etc to impove and ofton elininate some /many , symptoms
Can't read that, it's sideways.
Eliminating symptoms by diet is not the same as 'Healing your thyroid'. I object to people writing books about that because it gives people false hope. You cannot heal a thyroid.
No surprise here.
Sorry .
Sorry for what?
No need to apologise....just thought it might be easier for greygoose to read.
I wasn't criticising you in my response just trying to point to the importance of thyroid hormones rather than "natural therapies" in treating thyroid disorders?
Apologies if it sounded like that x
Thank you. No, no surprises. But obviously 'green juices' aren't that wonderful because she still went on to develop Hashi's. And, she wasn't 'on medication for her thyroid'. That suggests some sort of treatment that will make her thyroid well. She was on thyroid hormone replacement, like the rest of us. I think this is very misleading for anyone that just reads the blurb.
If you are looking to improve you thyroid help I suggest you look at your low FT3!
Test shows high FT4 with low FT3 which means your T4 to T3 conversion is poor
Low cellular T3 = poor health.
No amount of diet changes will improve conversion.
The hormone needs to be replaced by way of exogenous T4 or T3
Your FT4 is already top of range and adding extra levo is not going to produce the T3 your body needs...excess T4 comes with it's own problems not least an increased risk of developing cancer.
I'd suggest you need to add a little T3 to your dose of levo then tweak the T4/T3 dose until you feel well....do this by a combination of testing and the use of signs and symptoms/ clinical evaluation.
It is vital that vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin are optimal to support thyroid health.
The symptoms of Hashimoto's are often relieved by a gluten free diet......this is not "curing" the disease it is relieving the symptoms/ inflammation
Returning to T3.....for good health every cell in the body needs to be flooded with T3 by way of an adequate and constant supply.
I don't know how Hashi's affected this person but any "cure" likely owes more to " the Western medication" she seems to use rather than to diet change. But if a diet change did make a difference she was likely suffering the symptoms of core nutrient deficiency rather than a failing/ failed thyroid gland.
It is also important to remember that with Hashi's the antibodies fluctuate so that there may be a pattern of worsening symptoms followed by periods of low disease activity.....the disease isn't cured, just in remission!
Replacement hormones are required for life in order to maintain therapeutic hormone levels.
Call me a skeptic if you like but one thing is sure one cannot heal a damaged thyroid with diet alone....if the thyroid cannot produce the essential hormones T4 and T3 then in order to restore health these hormones have to be replaced exogenously.....for life.
"Eliminating symptoms" is a far cry from "healing your thyroid".
Now, convince me this is " a sensible book"!
Thanks for above . I have appointment next week with Gp.
Long time been gluten free etc.
You misunderstood me. I wasn’t clear. Sorry. I’m not looking for a cure , just like to read inspiring well written books.
For me natural medicine works better when we catch a problem very early. I had undiagnosed Hashimoto for many years.
Because I have always been health conscious and pro active I have no doubt I have stayed healthier.
Obviously we need to address underlying symptoms but many don’t realise that..
I agree a better title would have been better. ‘ don’t judge a book by its cover’ !,!!
Wholistic medicine isn’t about one thing but many , and one size doesn’t fit all, as we know.
Best wishes to you . Really appreciate your thoughts , debate always good
