Having the hardest time figuring out how long in between my doses I should wait? I'm on NDT. Concerned more w T3 than w T4. But if you have something to say about either, please let me know. Thank you. How long for T3 to peak and how long does it stay your system? π please and I appreciate any knowledge!

How long until T3 peaks. How long lasts?
Do you mean peak in the blood? About two to three hours after taking it, I believe.
One can't really say 'how long it lasts'. It's a hormone, not an aspirin. The half-life of T3 in the blood is about 24 hours. But, the T3 that gets into the cells stays there for about three days before being converted into T2. But, as you take some every day, it is continually being topped up in the cells.
It's only active when it's in the cells. I doesn't do anything in the blood.
Very nice! Thank you*
The rates at which things happen after taking NDT have not been as well studied as the synthetic forms, LT4 and LT3.
In general, it appears that NDT slows absorption and reduces the peaks though I have no figures to support this.
greygoose is right to point out that there is a dynamic cascade.
With LT4, absorption is similar to LT3.
But the effect of LT4 depends on being converted. If you take a large dose of LT4, there will be a peak in blood T3 maybe 48 hours or so later.
This is clearest in people who have taken a massive overdose. They can seem fine 24 hours later, then - after maybe 48 hours - suffer thyrotoxicity from the excess T3 due to conversion. In many ways, this is the danger. A doctor who does not understand the delay might even have discharged the patient. This happens to a less obvious degree in all of us.
I think it ends up that the only answer is to try it and see.
Members have used all sorts of dosing schedules - sometimes the same dose each time, sometimes not - sometimes equal periods, sometime not.
I don't take NDT so do not have the personal experience.
I've been on NDT for years. NDT has a slower uptake and slower fall... The consequence is people often, myself included, find it gives them an even feel. I take my daily NDT once per day first thing. I'm on what would be regarded as a full replacement dose. It sustains me throughout the day/night.I used to split dose my ndt many years ago but found no benifits to it. Far less complicated if you can take it in one go too!! π
I was taking it all at once in the morning. I began splitting doses because of different sources saying to do so and the high amount...4 grains NDT. I've never liked splitting my doses either and find I need a little more because the 1st dose is the only one that I haven't eaten with. The other two doses my stomach has something in it. Is your dose high first thing in the morning?
Usually 3 3/4grains.
I want thank you for your reply. I've been splitting my doses in 3 and am tired as hell! What time do you take it and do you go back to sleep or up and wait? An hour to eat? I feel terrible trying to split doses.
Everyone is different about what suits them. What I do is I have my NDT by my bed and a glass of water. As soon as I wake I take my NDT and drink the water. And then relax.... I find that by the time I've got out of bed, showered, dressed etc, fed the dog hour has gone by and I have my breakfast.
If it suited you taking first thing then I'd stick.... Lot less hassle! π
I hope this helps.
One last question, do set you alarm or wake up on your own?
I just wake up but I'm retired now. When I was working I would set my alarm. π
Waves were your blood tests similar dividing dose as when taking all at once?
I doubt it makes any difference because you still leave 24hrs between last dose and testing.
I have been taking Thyroid S NDT for years splitting the dose. 1.25 at 6am and the other one at 2pm this seems to work well for me for years too. The Thyroid s is slower release.
Armour never worked for me at
Taking 2.25 grains per day split was good for me.
Yes, I've noticed thyroid s is stronger. I have both. Been taking Armour but have thyroid s as back up. It's been hard to get treated properly here...sounds like anywhere unless your just plain lucky. Do you have food in your tummy with second dose. And thank you for answering. It's appreciated.
What was it that you didn't like about Armour?
it was too fast acting for me. I have no gut problems or Hashi I prefer Thyroid s which is a slower release.
I had to buy Armour some time ago when I couldn't get hold of Thyroid s and I found that even 30mg was too fast, in fact I sent off over Β£600 worth which I had purchased from the US to someone that was out of it. Free of Charge too.
I think that most people with a gut problem can use Armour but not me.
This is one of my first and favorite articles I researched that helped me plan a practical dosing schedule for my t3 (I donβt do ndt, although the article doe mention it.)
I have a huge interest in body clock and circadian rhythms (as a lifelong night owl), and was excited and interested when I started understanding the role of all these hormones on times I feel awake vs tired.
In my earlier days of dosage planning, I noticed in my symptom tracker that my involuntary naps were all happening at 2-2:30 pm (1400-1430). After reading this I then split my t3 to 2.5 at about 7 am plus 2.5 at 12:30.
It seemed to work - since then I have not had a 2:30pm nap since.
If anyone has anything to debunk in the below article, lmk, otherwise I found it so helpful with planning meds around those t3 peaks!
