About a year and half ago things were good after finally getting a T3 T4 combo from GP after submitting the results of my D102 TT polymorphism test. Recently in September I had started to feel unwell again (including a diagnosis of osteoarthritis, after some confusion) my TSH for what it was worth was over 5 and T4 just in range (T3 not done). My latest results over the phone, awaiting full print out, were done again as had been very unwell post viral (stopped meds for three days as racing pulse). These are TSH 20.38, T4 5.8, T3 4.1 with more bloods in 4 weeks after T4 meds increase. I am currently on T3: 25 mcg and T4: 50mcg. What I need to learn about is can I feel unwell if too much T4 as last time I was on 75mcg I felt very hypo, severe brain fog, exhaustion and not sleeping. I thought I saw an article about too much T4 in blood but not enough T3 in cells but I can’t find it. Can anyone point me in right direction? Thanks
Too much T4? : About a year and half ago things... - Thyroid UK
Too much T4?
You haven't given the ranges for each of the tests so we cant be precise. However, your TSH is 20.38 meaning you are well under medicated.
When you have your blood test done are you following the protocol recommended here?
Last Levo 24 hrs before blood test & T3 8-12 hours before. Book it for 9am or as close as possible and fast that morning until after the test. This gives stable blood levels and highest TSH.
How are your vitamins looking? What are your latest blood results for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?
What supplements are you taking?
I haven’t got the print out with ranges yet, only over the phone main values. I did follow the pre-test protocols re: T3 and T4. Last bloods states B12 in range and I take D3 every day. I also take the Biocare Thyroid vitamin supplement daily which contains A, C, B1,B2,B3, Zinc, Selenium, Iodine, Tyrosine and N-Acetyl Cysteine.
When you have the full results with ranges start a new post so that members can comment. Its hard to see whats happening at the moment other than your TSH is far too high.
How much D3 do you take a day and do you also take vit K2 to help direct it towards your bones?
An 'in range' B12 is definitely not good enough as the range is far too wide.
The Biocare supplement is really like a multivitamin and contains iodine which isn't recommended if you have a thyroid condition.
A good B complex would be far better that contains both B12 & folate but you should really test your levels in the first nstance to see where they are and how much you need to supplement. You can then monitor your levels better.
Suggest you get full vitamin levels tested - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3. You could ask your GP or see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost.thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...
There is also a new company offering walk in (includes free blood draw) & mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...
Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.
Thanks Jaydee, will do. I usually take K2 but have run out need to buy more.
