Anomalous results - follow up

Hello everyone,

This is a follow up to my last post two months ago which described the anomalous results from two tests one NHS and one Medichecks only one day apart and both done following the usual protocol. These were done following an increase in levo to 100mcg on 1 June. As I expected when my GP saw the TSH result she baulked at keeping me on 100 mcg despite this having helped my symptoms. I was able to persuade her on the basis that I would repeat the tests using MMH which I explained was an NHS lab and would also test T3.

For ease of reference I am including the earlier 'anomalous' results with my recent re test.

NHS on 31/7

TSH 0.06 (0.35 - 5)

FT4 17.5 (9 - 22) 65.38% through range

Medichecks on 1/8

TSH 0.06 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4 24.4 (12 - 22) above range 124%

FT3 4.6 (3.1 - 6.8) 40.54% through range

New MMH test on 23/10

TSH 0.1 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4 19.7 (12 - 22) 77% through range

FT3 4.1 (3.1 - 6.8) 27% through range

Other results from Medichecks on 1/8 are

D3 96.6 (50 - 250), ferritin 233 (30 - 650), folate 41.8. (8.83 - 60.8) and B12 104 (37.5 - 188). I have continued my supplement regime so have no reason to think these levels have deteriorated.

Where do I go from here? I am quite certain my GP will not entertain increasing levo and in any case it seems to me there is a strong possibility of a conversion issue. I am inclined to approach Roseway Pharmacy who I understand will issue a private T3 prescription. In the meantime I have a GP appointment on Thursday and assume I should push to be kept on 100 mcg levo. My results weren't much different on 75mcg but on that dose I had felt no improvement. The improvement I felt from 100mcg does now seem to be tailing off but that could be because the shorter days of winter have always affected my mood.

Any advice as ever gratefully received - many thanks.

I'd go down the roseway labs route if those were my results.

Thanks Lalatoot. Do you think results conclusive enough or should I take the DIO2 test?

They are conclusive enough in my opinion.Ask yourself why you should take the test and what you would do with the results. If it would get you better treatment and convince doctors then do it . If it's just for you to confirm what you already know the I wouldn't bother.

How do you feel?

I know I need more thyroid hormone in the winter - think I use more up to just keep warm!

I just wondered if you need a private prescription from a dr for roseway labs to issue you any T3 (which does look low according to your bloods)?

Is that what you were thinking about doing? Ie seeing a private endo?

Take care
