Any truth to Estrogen being out of the question for hypothyroidism?

I keep getting email adverts from Forefront Health. This week it is lots of terrifying statistics on how suspectable we are to breast cancer and other cancers. I didn't know we had an increased risk of breast cancer. They then go on to say we are almost always estrogen dominant and that we should never take estrogens. Even if our Estrogen is low it will still be more dominant than progesterone - which they go on to sell!! This is why I am asking here. When there is something to sell i am always quick to disbelieve but thought I would check here before I explore HRT. I didn't get on well with progesterone bio identical cream and I didn't get on well with combi patches on a cycle. Any knowledge of us not supposed to be taking estrogens with hypothyroidism?

I am just starting to take Oestrogen although I’ve had Breast Cancer. The gynaecologist tells me that I have no greater risk of getting BC (again) than anyone else. My BC oncologist agrees.

I would never buy anything that that was advertised after an article.

If you decide to take HRT you will probably need to have your thyroid meds increased.

PS. If I were you I’d unsubscribe from those pesky emails

I, like many members of the forum, have hugely benefited from HRT. I have had no adverse symptoms from taking HRT in addition to thyroid medication.

Whilst many members report needing a slight increase in thyroid medication when taking HRT, I’ve actually needed less.

Regarding HRT, it may be useful to have a look at Dr Louise Newson’s free Balance App, as I find it really useful for comparing HRT medications & having up to date research articles. There is also an ability to post questions.

There are many many types of breast cancer, not all oestrogen triggered. I've never seen anything stating we shouldn't take oestrogen (except an old GP, who doesn't think anyone should get it!)

A good while ago now I heard a statistical analysis (probably BBC Radio 4 - More Or Less programme), where they drilled down the figures, and found that whereas, in some cases there was an increased risk of breast cancer with use of HRT, the numbers were actually miniscule. In risk - benefit analysis, there were far greater numbers of woman suffering other types of symptoms due to the panic caused by the 'risk'.

I don't know if this answers your question or not. It may be that 'we' are in that miniscule figure at risk, but I've never heard of it. And of course there are many types of HRT now as well.

Whenever, a medical professional says that there's a risk of A, B or C, I always ask for the numbers (they never have them of course, or are even able to direct me to source docs). I certainly wouldn't take that info from an ad.

I take a combo HRT and was told to come off it following a breast lump being found. As I did not think it was doing anything, I stopped taking it. Oh boy! Within a week, I was a mad bad walking nightmare. So I started taking them again and mentioned to the breast team that I had. The doctor was cross I had been told to stop taking them, said there was no need, the lump was a cyst, and added not to let anyone take my HRT away as it was obviously stopping me from doing harm!

I also take NDT, but I was on the HRT before my thyroid decided to go silly. You would have to pull my HRT away from my cold dead hands now!

Estrogen dominant my whole life, placed on progesterone in my 30’s to balance. Dx HypoT in my mid-40’s (on Levo and lio) then menopause at age 47. On biodentical HRT ever since (estriol, estradiol, progesterone and recently added testosterone). Did have to increase thyroid meds when placed on HRT. Currently in my mid 50’s and I couldn’t function without HRT!
