I have been on a stable dose of 1.5 grains of Armour Thyroid daily, for a couple of years now, prescribed by a private thyroid doctor. The NHS didn't want to treat my borderline low thyroid. I feel good, and have no symptoms, but I am concerned about my high ferritin marker, which keeps creeping upwards. I am 50 and at peri-menopause. I am overweight (not as much as I used to be) and also have PCOS/metabolic syndrome. My thyroid doctor has asked me to get a full iron panel with my GP, which I will do. One of the possible causes of the high ferritin is being overmedicated on thyroid hormone. I don't feel over-medicated. I haven't yet discussed my private thyroid treatment with my GP, and I guess I am worried that my GP will simply blame the (in their view unecessary) thyroid meds for my high ferritin.
I would appreciate any thoughts or wisdom from the forum on the high ferritin marker, and how I should best discuss it with the GP. I can feel me worrying over nothing, as I know I have other possible causes for the raised ferritin. But I don't have a lot of trust in my NHS GP, and don't want a 'telling-off' for pursuing private thyroid treatment and not accepting their original lack of diagnosis. Thank you!
