Following everyones helpful advice to my previous post, I've got results from Medichecks advising that I have insufficient levels of Vit D (48.3 in range of 50 - 250). Does anyone have any recommendations for which supplements to take? They suggest 800 - 2000 iu per day for 10 weeks, then dropping to 400iu?

Also Folate Serum was 17.8 (range 8.83 - 60.8) and Vit B12 was 109 (range 37.5 - 188)

Would it be wise to aim higher in the range for these also?

Anyone know of any combined supplements which will cover these?

Many thanks

What was ferritin result

And presumably you also tested TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Please add results

Vitamin D

Many thyroid patients need to supplement continuously and at higher doses than typical

GP should prescribe 1600iu everyday for 6 months, but you’re likely better off self supplementing at higher dose ….2000iu - 3000iu daily

Retest in 3-4 months

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But improving to around 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with thyroid issues we frequently need higher dose than average

only start one supplement at a time

Then wait at least 10-14 days before starting another

Starting with vitamin D

Folate is on low side

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

healthline.com/nutrition/fo...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Thorne currently difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

Other options

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

Igennus B complex popular option too. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)

Many thanks - other results below - since test I've dropped Levo from 125mcg daily to alternate days 125/112.5mcg

Ferritin was 68.8 (range 30-150)

Thyroid Hormones

TSH X 0.031 mIU/L (Range: 0.27 - 4.2)

Free T3 4.4 pmol/L (Range: 3.1 - 6.8)

Free Thyroxine X 25.8 pmol/L (Range: 12 - 22)

Autoimmunity

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 40.60 kIU/L (Range: 0 - 115)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 32.9 kIU/L (Range: 0 - 34)

was last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Results show poor conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Improving low vitamin levels should help improve conversion rates

Currently

FT4: 25.8 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 well over range at 138.00%

But

FT3: 4.4 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 only 35.14% through range

Retest in another 8-10 weeks

Once vitamin levels are optimal …..If Ft3 remains low likely to benefit from addition of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

aim to keep ferritin at least over 70

Look at increasing more iron rich foods in your diet

Yes Levo dose was over 24 hours before blood test and have had very low TSH and high T4 for the past few blood tests, hence reducing to 125/112.5 mcg alternate dose as last time GP advised to drop to 100mcg, I felt dreadful. I've ordered some Vit D spray to start tomorrow and will introduce B vits etc as suggested - thanks so much for your time and help!! 😊
