What about the patients?

This poster abstract describes the attitudes of medics as to the frequency of T4 or T4/T3 medication in a multi-country accumulation of data. The medics are satisfied that only a very few patients needed T3. But what did the patients think? This is yet another study designed for the benefit of prescribers not the prescribed. It's assumed without evidence that they are completely happy with their prescription. Note the 1.7% T3 prescription users versus the 10-15% who in other studies feel the need for T3 in some form. Seems to be a gap in logic here. In this study it's the prescribers satisfaction, whereas in the other it's the patient complaint.

Nearly all respondents stated that they would not use LT4 + LT3 combination as initial treatment, and only 40% would consider this therapy for persistent symptoms.

60% would NOT consider LT3 at all.

It is extremely difficult to interpret that as anything but extremely blinkered and closed-minded.

As I read it, that means even patients with proved resistance to thyroid hormone (impaired sensitivity) wouldn't be considered for LT3.

[And don't I HATE studies which start out with a 'bacronym' name. They are trying to make their study important. They are pre-judging their conclusions. "THESIS", especially when quoted without full explanation, could be taken as an academic acceptance. Whereas names like "NHANES" meant nothing but have grown and acquired meaning because of what they are.)

"They" decide what outcome "they" want for the study and then fit the study to get the outcome they want . Like Big Pharma with their "marketing studies". There is a form of abuse known as "Gaslighting" whereby the Abuser ( a person in power) tells the Abused, (a person without power) ,what The Truth is whether it is true ir not ...This results in the victim doubting themselves and the true reality .This is what Donald Trump does in a way when he describes the evidence as Fake News . This is also what victims of thyroid under treatment suffer ... They/ we are victims of medical abuse .This is because failure to prescribe sufficient meds is just as sickness-making as overdosing meds that make us ill. Both cause illness ,one caused by over treatment and one by undertreatment . But one is accepted as bad ( over).and the other is not for some reason ...well.thats what it seems to me .

l really appreciate your comment: 'failure to prescribe sufficient meds is just as sickness-making as overdosing meds that make us ill.' That's not pointed out enough, thank you.

Of course it is, but expressed the way that Tythrop has really makes the point quite starkly. I like it..

The big problem is that even those few doctors who will prescribe T3, think they are doling out priceless treasure if they allow someone 10mcg a day! They have no understanding of the damage they are doing.

They are simply no longer fit for purpose. Seems, with the low-level basic science A Level requirements, they never were fit for purpose. Scant grasp of populations, variables and human differences, has led to a disastrous outcome in this 21st Century.

T3 is my lifeline.

Levothyroxine was horrible and I had worse symptoms that neither myself or husband could control.

GP failed to diagnose with a TSH of 100. He had no clue at all.
