This paper has questioned Swedish doctors as to their prescription of thyroid hormones for hypothyroidism. It's interesting that despite guidelines 50% of doctors prescribe T3 in combination where they think it necessary. This contrasts sharply with the UK acquiescence in refusing T3 treatment. It's downloadable and an interesting summary of Swedish practice. Not all countries are as blinded to guidance supporting T4 only.
Ah, countries where patient health is uppermost in their considerations AND where they're sufficiently smart to 'work out' that which is corrigible and that which is not?
One of the Scandinavian countries, in 2009, said that GET [Guided Exercise Therapy] used in ME/CFS, was harmful... took until quite recently for the UK to finally acknowledge what they'd been doing to people!?
Appalling - jobs for the... I've said to certain docs that this, re GET, is garbage... as for CBT [aka 'talk yourself 'round from mitochondrial fatigue'], that I could likely run classes for them were I the type to scam ill people. If CBT works for ME/CFS, then there may be other issues in any event?
Don't get me started on CBT for chronic fatigue! What a laugh. When untreated even a phone call is too tiring let alone a CBT session. I think it's like the AD pills, we don't know what's wrong so it must be in your mind and you can talk yourself out of it! There must be literally no evidence or flimsy at best that these 'interventions' ever work for people with ME, CF but they persist with them regardless.
I do wonder if there has been any research into what is so unique about the UK climate, diet and lifestyle that seems to make T3 - Liothyronine superfluous in the treatment of hypothyroidism.
