So I had my Thyroid blood test again last week and had phone call today! Apparently I’m under medicated so my dosage is being put up from 100mg to 125mg. But I’m a-bit anxious about having an extra 25mg as I don’t want to possible be over medicated… as my previous bloods apparently I was over medicated so they wanted to drop them to 75mg. Anyway my question is if I don’t take the extra 25mg could I become ill? Because in the last 2 months I have been feeling normal again so I’m a-bit gutted it’s now showing I’m not medicated enough.

I’m not sure what readings are I will get print out when I collect my prescription tomoz.

Was test done early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Ideally your GP will have tested TSH, Ft4, Ft3 plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

See what results show

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Which brand of levothyroxine is your 100mcg tablet

Do you always get same brand at each prescription

Aim to get same brand for 25mcg if possible

You could initially increase by 12.5mcg ….by cutting 25mcg tablets in half

Yes test was 9am, no I had my levothyroxine before test as I have been told to take as normal. Going from previous tests they only ever look at the TSH level but will know for defo tomoz! Yes I had FBC Anemia, diabetics and kidney function checks I’m on folic acid anyway for low folate. Yes I always have the same brand (actavis).

How you feel is of primary importance. But doctors never even ask that question, do they.

You don't have to take the extra 25 mcg if you feel you don't need it. But, let them prescribe it, anyway. That way, you will have some in hand and can increase your dose if you feel the need. Certainly don't change anything until you've seen the numbers - results and ranges - of your latest blood test. But no need to involve your GP, just do your own thing. :)

This is what I was thinking and waiting another 8 weeks and seeing if different again! But if still the same or I feel different then I’ll take the extra.

Sounds like a plan. :)

you could take the extra 25mcg every other day rather than every day. T4 just builds up in your system waiting to be converted to the major hormone T3. 25mcg every day May push you over medicated as it’s a large percentage jump.

Yes that’s a good idea didn’t think of that. Thank you x

so I received a print out of my TSH levels today as that is all they tested!! Also doctors said I needed an increase but actually it’s a decrease!! My level was 0.05 does this indicate hyper?

if you feel well at the moment , don't agree to change dose (up or down) based just on a tsh test.

no, 0.05 does not necessarily mean you are overmedicated. ( but GP may panic and think it does )

you're only overmedicated if fT4/fT3 are too high for you , or if you have symptoms of overmedication.

i strongly recommend you ask gp to leave dose as it is for now and repeat bloods in 3-6mths and to include an fT4 test next time .
