Skipping levothyroxine

Hi everyone,

So I had a blood test arranged for tomorrow Monday at 9am (Blue Horizon Gold Thyroid) so following advice given here I skipped my 100mg dose of Levothyroxine this morning in preparation for the test.

I've just been informed very late that it's now going to be Tuesday at 9am.

My question is can I skip 2 consecutive days of my levothyroxine?

Kind regards

I think you’re muddled! You are supposed to take your Levo 24 hours before your test! So you should have taken your medication this morning for your Monday morning test. Now you have it on Tuesday morning at 9am, make sure you take your medication by 9am on Monday morning.

Hope that’s clear!

Thanks Star yes that makes sense and yes I'd say I was muddled as been rather emotional since last week, no idea why 🤷‍♂️Okay so today at 9am and test tomorrow at 9am as rescheduled sounds like a plan.

You don't 'skip' a dose of levo, you take it 24 hours before you are due to have the blood draw - so leaving a gap of 24 hours. Then, on the day of the test you delay taking your levo until after the blood draw.

Skipping a dose will give you a false result. :)

Thanks GG, I've maybe worded my question wrong. Although my intention was to leave a 24hr gap your correct and I now realise it's actually Saturday morning I'd last taken so it would have been 48hrs this morning. Then my intention was to take again post blood draw.So from what you say I should make arrangements to have another time say next Tuesday morning (as I'm away until Monday)

Would that be acceptable or do I have to wait longer in order for things to be okay?

Or can I take this morning and still have my.test tomorrow at 9am. Followed by my levothyroxine?

As above. Take it this morning at 9am, have your test tomorrow at 9am and afterwards take your levothyroxine.x

Thanks Maisie. So I normally have between 6 and7am so I can take this morning at that time yes? Then tomorrow post blood draw 🙂

Well, what time is your blood draw? Would it be between 6 and 7 am?

Hi GG, would I be correct in assuming that I now have to cancel tomorrow's 9am blood draw and make a new appointment?

Being as I had my levothyroxine at 7am this morning which would make it 26hrs before Blood Test.

Kind regards

Well, two hours extra won't make an awful lot of difference. But, for whom are these labs intended: you or your doctor?

Hi Grey Goose thanks for your quick response it's very much appreciated. The test is for me and my thinking was I could share the results with your good selves and get some advice if needed to present to my GP so that I can get my body more dialed into my personal requirements.

Ultimately to feel better than I do right now.

Kind regards

OK, so in that case, I wouldn't worry about the extra two hours. Go ahead and have your blood test. :)

Well sorry, I said take at 9 if blood test at 9 tomorrow (24 hrs). I'm not qualified to say whether 26hrs will make a huge difference. If it were me I would go ahead but greygoose will know best.

Hi Maisie, apologies it was Star who said "make sure you take by 9am" not you. I read that as around or by 9am not bang on. I appreciate everyone's response and I'm sorry if I got confused it's just I was so anxious, low and lack of sleep etc.

So again.. I wasn't having a go at anyone I just read Stars initial response wrong. 🙏

No apology needed...didn't mean to sound cross. I meant sorry if I had not made it clear. Oh dear, we all have to deal with this tiredness, brain fog, anxiety, don't we. I wish you well and hope you get everything sorted.🤞

I generally take my Levo around 5am every morning. On testing day, I skip my 5am and bring my Levo with me and take it right after my blood test.

Thanks Ice 😊.. That's the plan. It's the window beforehand I was concerned about but Grey Goose has assured me.
