How frustrating. Seems to be a common issue for many, for some reason doctors don’t want us to be in the know!

It can take a little while to set up but if your practice offers Online access (many UK areas should) sign up ASAP. Then you can you view full GP records, including test results and referral correspondence. A further step is required to enable full access which has to be requested and processed, but having full access is extremely useful. I can now view all my results without having to ask any staff and waiting a few days for a print out.

If it’s not available or while it’s being set up contact reception and arrange to collect a print of your latest blood test results. Before I had access I would request a copy and suggest I come and collect 2-3 days later, this allows them to find the time to print. Legally they can refuse and the can not charge, Sometimes they question why just say for your records.

Hypothyroid as result of RAI

Please add ranges on these results (figures in brackets after each result)

FT3 likely too low under 5

Essential to regularly retest vitamin levels

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine

Which brand?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with Graves’ disease

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

Medichecks Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins

medichecks.com/products/adv...

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

thriva.co/tests/thyroid-test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk...

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

monitormyhealth.org.uk/

Also vitamin D available as separate test via MMH

Or alternative Vitamin D NHS postal kit

vitamindtest.org.uk

We need OPTIMAL vitamin levels for good conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Come back with new post once you get full thyroid and vitamin results

Please can you add the ranges on results (figures in brackets after each result )

Laboratory ranges vary from lab to lab

For thyroid hormones to work well we need OPTIMAL Vitamin Levels

First step is to get vitamins tested

Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

So we’re you treated with Carbimazole or PTU during those 10 years

Toddy66 profile image
Toddy66 in reply toSlowDragon

Yes ten years ago i was treated with that replace and block but when they tried this time a year ago the carbimazole destroyed all my white blood cells i went into neutropenia so had to stop immediately hence the radio-iodine treatment :-(
