And here, Dr Peatfield’s Wikipedia page has also been updated

Will condolences be sent to his family from Hu or ThyroidUK? It would be nice if “we” recognised his dedication.
I agree Gingernut44. This will be something that needs to come from Lyn Mynott, CEO of Thyroid UK. lynmynott

I've updated your title to include Dr Peatfield’s name so that people will know what your post is about.
That is really sad news indeed.
I will forever be indebted to him. When I was desperate and no doctor seemed to know what to do, his books and articles were a great help to me. Thanks to him, I was able to self-diagnose, self-treat and regain my health. I doubt doctors like him exist anymore. He was one of a kind and will be fondly remembered by hundreds of thousands of thyroid and adrenal patients.
For sure - a gentleman - beyond the comprehension of endo-donkeys. Wonderful man, who likely saved my life, long term. ❤️
I owe Barry Peatfield (& STTM) my adrenal insufficiency diagnosis.
I hope his family are informed of how much his work was / is appreciated. His bravery in standing up against this thyroid-adrenal scandal means so much to patients. It’s so sad to think a lifetime later and it’s still the same battle he was fighting decades ago. If only more could be as brave as him.
Very sad news indeed. Never met him personally but I, like many of us here, bought his book Your Thyroid and How To Keep It Healthy on the recommendation of ThyroidUK and have treated it as a bible since then. I got my thyroid combined with adrenal treatment under control by following his recommendations and will be forever grateful to him for giving me my life back.
Yes, it´s amazing what the right treatment can do, isn´t it?! And to imagine that most doctors either have no idea the right treatment exists, or dismiss them as experimental and dangerous. Like Dr. P said: many of the drugs they try to force on us (statins, anti-depressants, sleeping pills...) are much more dangerous than T3 and cortisol, both of which are completely natural and essential for life.
Hi Everyone, This is very sad news that I have only just seen this morning.
Unfortunately, when Barry retired I could not contact him as he changed all of his telephone numbers. I have tried several times over the years to find him, to no avail which is very sad as were used to be very close.
Since I have no contact details for him, I'm afraid I can't send condolences or flowers, which I would very much like to do.
I have contacted The Times to see if they would send a message to the family for mebut I'm not sure they will.
Barry was a very lovely, kind and generous man who truly cared about his patients and who, in my opinion, saved a lot of lives and gave a quality of life back to many, many people who saw him.
I really do wish there were more doctors like him today.
<3 <3
How sad that you were unable to stay in touch. I had the pleasure of seeing him in 2017 and he spoke very fondly of you and the amazing work that you were doing. He will indeed be very much missed. Best wishes
Lyn, could you contact his family through the publisher of his book?
I too was one of the lucky ones who got to see Dr Barry more than once. He was a lovely man and I wish that the Drs I've seen before and since had even a fraction of the knowledge and humanity that he had. I owe everything to Dr Barry, when I first saw him back in 2009 I was at rock bottom, he steered me back to good health. I will be forever grateful. I hope his family get to read these posts so that they know how much he was loved and appreciated by us all. With best wishes and condolences.
This is so said for all of us. When I read dr Peatfield book, I was so impressed to finally find a professional who was wiling to share with the world the truth. Too bad that that I discovered him so late. May he rest in peace!
Yes, his books are really great. At least they will still be available to patients all over the world, and continue to help patients get better. Many patients can never see a doctor like Dr. P in real life, but they can educate themselves by reading his books.
I was very lucky to be given the best advice by Dr Barry (as he always signed off his advice letters after an appointment. So privileged to have been a patient of his. How lucky his 'Dear Boys' were to have him for a Father.
I often say I've met very few doctors in real life, though supposedly meeting a ton. Though rather unfortunately I never had the honour of meeting Dr Peatfield, he sounds like he was a true doctor in every sense of the word. One of the unsung quiet heroes of life. God keep him and bless his family at this difficult time xx
Dr Peatfield was a lovely caring man. I was very lucky to have been treated by him and will always be grateful for that privilege. I'm sure he has turned so many lives around which would otherwise have been completely wretched. Deepest condolences to his family xx
I too was lucky enough to be treated by this wonderful man who did so much for his Thyroid Patients. It was a real delight to have met him. So refreshing to be treated with humanity and knowledge and common sense. We need more like him.
I was another person who was delighted to have had a consultation with Dr. Barry. He was kind and knowledgeable and gave the patient confidence that they could feel better quite soon.
Hi Everyone, I am now in touch with one of Dr Peatfield's sons, who is going to give me more information about his funeral. Once I know, and if I have his permission, I will let everyone know the details.
A fine, fine Doctor - a Prince amidst... ❤️ Dr Peatfield saved my life. Already using NDT, via Dr Skinner, he told me in 2010 that I'd need T3 alone to get fully well, also that my adrenals needed help; (they did and are fine). His family will know of his wonderful manner and attitude and I trust it will be of some comfort to see how well thought of he is. xox
Hi , I was also lucky enough to meet Dr Barry Peatfield and had a few appointments with him when I was being overdosed on Levothyroxine by a local GP and had brain fog and exhaustion daily. He lived a long distance from me but the travel was worth it.
Dr Barry was so knowledgeable , genuine and caring and helped me to feel normal again. I doubt there is anyone else out there like him RIP
( His books are invaluable )
So very sad to see this. Thankyou for posting.I was lucky enough to have a consultation with him about 15 years ago. Honestly, he was instrumental in me turning my life around and taking charge of my thyroid journey. Up till that point all the medics were just making me worse!
Thankyou Dr P. May you rest in peace. X
Dr Peatfield took my hand and reassured me all would be well. That simple but profound act conveyed so much warmth, kindness and respect, enough to instill and sustain hope. He seemed to me a very human being with an incredible gift. This, he used with unwavering dedication
I've only just seen this... how very sad...
His book is the main one that I've read and reread cover to cover, it's full of bookmarks and consulted regularly, it's the one I recommend far and wide.
Rest well Dr. Peatfield and thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom
So very sad to hear the news of Dr Barry Peatfield's passing.
He was a true gentleman, so kind and knowledgeable. I was fortunate enough to be treated by him about 15 years ago - with great success.
Sincere condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.
Oh my goodness, I’ve only just seen this. I was lucky enough to be treated by Dr Peatfield. He was a wonderful caring doctor, who diagnosed by patient symptoms and old school testing - like reflexes. He took my hand too and told me I could be well again and I believed him. I owe my quality of life to him and his advice. I will be forever grateful.
Rest in peace Dr Pestfield. The thyroid world has lost a giant!
Thank you for letting us know. It was only this morning I decided to make the effort to go and see him after many years of (not) managing my condition on my own. I'm very sad – entirely selfishly – that he's no longer around. He was a dedicated doctor, and a lovely man, and it says something that I thought of him when I decided I had to just find someone I could really, really trust, after being let down by so many endocrinologists and doctors and so-called online experts and snake oil salesmen.
Such sad sad news. I also saw Dr Peatfiekd for a consultation.. He was a very kind thorough doctor, with sharp shrewd eyes and a gentle voice. He actually examined and made a proper clinical assessment, in a way no one else did apart from Dr Skinner. He helped me to address the adrenal side of my hypothyroidism which with his advice recovered in the next two years and did not need support in the end. I also have his book and it is the one I always recommend as its full of sound advice all clearly explained. I've leant so much from that book.
A truly wonderful dedicated Doctor who deeply cared about his patients, a clever and wonderful practioner who will be greatly missed. Thankyou for helping me. Rest in peace Dr Peatfield
Oh this is sad news. I was lucky to have consulted with him quite a few times. He was such a delightful person. A proper doctor who asked questions and observed. He really made me feel listened too. I’ve since got sicker but he’d retired so I was on my own. I’ve gifted several copies of his book to friends who were struggling. He just really understood.
He will be forever in the hearts of many thyroid patients.
I was lucky enough to see Dr Peatfield . Such a caring helpful man. I don't think any doctor can replace him
Oh, sad news. His book saved my existence.
I missed this news. I was in such a mess and he was my saviour. I will forever be indebted to him. Bless him. What a lovely, caring, kind man.
I’m about to gift his book to a friend who is struggling. His legacy lives on.
SUCH sad news . I saw him and spoke to him on the phone several times in the last 20 years before he retired , kindly and sensible gentleman and he LISTENED to us . He also suffered from hypothyroidism himself and at one of the times I saw him told me he took armour thyroid like I did then . One of the many reasons he was so empathetic to us . I have a lot of his papers . Indeed a Prince among men .
He was a true gentleman and a scholar whom I will forever be indebted to. He gifted me not only medical help but almost more importantly hope and humanity when I was lost from mainstream medicine. I still use his sign off of “full steam ahead” it always cheers me onwards. Blessings
Barry Peatfield helped me and I will always be grateful to him. My encounter with him was life changing.
