T3 brands available on private prescription in the U.K.

Good afternoon everyone,

Hope you are all as well as can be.

I see a private endocrinologist who prescribes my NDT and T3. Currently, the T3 brand is Thybon Henning - reasonably priced.

I keep it on my prescription for ‘emergencies’ because when I transitioned to Thybon from Grossman Cynomel (which I was self sourcing), my T3 levels tanked (confirmed by bloods) and my hypo symptoms came back.

Due to supply issues with Grossman, I’m now going to ask my endo to prescribe an alternative to Thybon and attempt to use what I’m prescribed, instead of chasing round like a mad woman after Grossman Cynomel, as it’s becoming impossible to reliably source and I’ve had issues with recent batches.

If you are prescribed T3 in the U.K., would you be able to share with me the brand you are prescribed and how you find it?

My preference was always Grossman Cynomel, then Tiromel. I find Thybon weak in comparison.

Just need to gain some sort of picture, as to what’s available and how people rate different brands. I *know* it can be a very individual thing but if I can glean even the slightest consensus, then it might help point me in the right direction, when requesting a change of brand of T3.

Thank you in advance for any replies received and any experiences anyone is willing to share.

M x

The products I have seen members being prescribed in the UK are all the UK products plus:

Thybon Henning

Sanofi Cynomel

Ace (Netherlands) Cytomel

Pfizer Cytomel

SigmaPharma Liothyronine (USA version) but this is very unlikely now we have a UK and Ireland version.

All these are rare, though Thybon Henning seems to be the most common.

Quite possibly I'm failing to remember any others. But they certainly are not commonly prescribed.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.

I've been on thybon Henning for about 3 months now and it seems ok although I have started having cramp in my legs. Not sure whether this is due to the hypo or not though.
