Headaches

Hi

Very recently diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroidism and started on 50mcg levothyroxine 5 days ago.

I have a vast array of symptoms and understand that getting to a therapeutic dose is going to take time.

My question is, how long did it take you to get a significant reduction of frequency and/or severity of headaches? Other symptoms are there but it’s the headaches that are upsetting me most at the moment.

Been gluten, dairy, caffeine and alcohol free for 3 weeks-ish.

X

Hang in there ….unlikely to see much improvement for couple of weeks …..then may start to notice small changes

Then as your body gets ready for next increase in levothyroxine, you may see symptoms start to return a little after 6-8 weeks

Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking

Are you taking levothyroxine waking or bedtime?

Levothyroxine is an extremely fussy hormone and should always be taken on an empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after

Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

Hi

I’m taking Accord brand, early in the morning with water only.

I’m not the most patient of patients 😂

What are you doing for your headaches? Don't forget dehydration can play a big part in causing headaches. Also, if you are taking painkillers frequently you could be having rebound headaches. That happened to me. You would need to wean yourself off them. I now have no headaches and don't need painkillers as a result!

Thyroid disease unfortunately is something that will develop your patience because nothing is fixed quickly!

When they’re bad I take paracetamol & ibuprofen but takes a while to work. Haven’t had one for two days now, hoping this is a good sign.

Also managed to knock off one of my laxatives, could be coincidence but hoping things are changing for the better.
