Doctors want to have a chat about my latest results. I feel well. 100% better than on levo alone. I take 150mcg levo and 25mcg T3 (brand Tiromel). I have told my regular GP that I self medicate T3. I have had full thyroidectomy, 2014.

Any guidance gratefully received.

batter them with science (if you don't understand it yourself, just give them the references and say 'please read and consider this , lol )

This post : healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

main body of post is about how TSH is 'relatively' lower once we take levo.. and why this means 'below range' TSH doesn't always indicate overmedication in patients on levo .

then go to the first reply .. some stuff there about how T3 use lowers TSH relatively more than levo does .

the info is ***continued** in another reply much further down the post.

Also, you may find useful stuff in this one to counter the inevitable threats of "bone loss and heart problems due to low TSH" that the GP is obliged to warn you about.

Thank you, as always

I am feeling the best I've been since removal of my thyroid. My main GP has a wife and mother with thyroid disease, and has actually researched, unfortunately it is not always him who reviews my blood test results. I've had my meds reduced without consultation before now. I just need the opinion/validation of my thoughts on this to better be able to fight my corner. I will ask for referral to endo again, last time I got an endo who was a waste of my time. I live in Berkshire I think there may have been a better NHS endo working in Maidenhead or Reading, I'll look at the list again.

If GP says " I have to reduce your dose because the guidelines say i can't let you have a below range TSH" .....

The first paragraph in the NICE (NHS) Thyroid Disease, Assessment and Management guidelines says :

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng145

"Your responsibility

The recommendations in this guideline represent the view of NICE, arrived at after careful consideration of the evidence available. When exercising their judgement, professionals and practitioners are expected to take this guideline fully into account, alongside the individual needs, preferences and values of their patients or the people using their service. It is not mandatory to apply the recommendations, and the guideline does not override the responsibility to make decisions appropriate to the circumstances of the individual, in consultation with them and their families and carers or guardian. you need to test folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Test vitamin D twice a year

Thank you Slow Dragon, I need to sort that out has been a while since I had vitamins tested, I do supplement vitD spray with K2, Folate (L methylfolate), and take B complex and use B12 spray. I'll ask about that and referral to Endo. As said above I did get sent to an endo locally before and that was a waste of my time. I'll look at the list again.
