this morning I’m really scared. I just don’t feel well. I am working today (temp) but have extreme brain fog, can hardly put one foot in front of the other. Very heavy eyed. Want to cry. Can hardly speak. Too exhausted.
Have had under active thyroid for many years and have been on 100 one day and 75 the next Thyroxine.
I had a blood test a little while ago but the GP always says it’s fine.

As a possible quick fix to help your adrenals get you through the day some orange juice (Vit C) with added salt might help, if you can lay your hands on some cream of tartar even better... most people reach for sugar and caffeine but if your adrenals are struggling it won't help.
If you can find the energy can you access your test results online and post them up?... might give us an idea of where your at 🤗
If not how about request the paper copies to pick up
Wow never heard of salt in orange juice. I’ll try that - how much salt please? And cream of tartar?! Will try that too. I wish I was as knowledgeable as you all. One of my symptoms is “I can’t be bothered - even if it might help me” this has got worse as I’ve got older. I just want to stay in bed at the moment! But I’m really forcing myself to carry on. And I have to, for my son and my grand children. Thanks for your understanding
Looking at previous posts you’re likely under medicated/poor vitamin levels
Can you organise getting TSH, Ft4, Ft3, vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels tested…..either via GP or private testing
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
List of private testing options and money off codes
Thank you so much. I will go for private testing when I can afford it. I do take vitamin D (with K) daily. It’s a waste of time going to my GP, not one doctor has any real knowledge of thyroid diseases sadly. Instead of going forward with it I think we are going backward - quite a few people I know have had T3 taken away from them. I guess it’s too expensive for the NHS
Actually increasing numbers are getting T3 prescribed as doctors see the transformation…..and price now down to £40 for 20mcg per 28 tablets (was £268 at highest)
Nearly 63,000 prescriptions in England in last year, typically 6 prescriptions per person per year
But FIRST before considering adding T3 you are highly likely to need dose INCREASE in levothyroxine and essential to get all vitamins tested and optimal
Approx how much do you weigh in kilo
Guidelines on dose levothyroxine by weight is around 1.6mcg per kilo per day
Being left under medicated results in low vitamin levels
Can see you were only prescribed iron for short while, likely ferritin is still low
Many thyroid patients need to supplement vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin B complex continuously.
Some also need separate B12 and iron supplements
But essential to test FIRST you will see thousands of members have seen significant improvements by maintaining OPTIMAL vitamin levels and fine tuning levothyroxine
If you have autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s) it’s ALWAYS worth trying strictly gluten free diet…..again…test for coeliac BEFORE cutting gluten
only 5% Hashimoto’s patients test positive for coeliac, but further 80% find gluten free helps, often significantly or is absolutely essential
About 50% Hashimoto’s patients also find dairy free helps or is essential
Did you find an endo willing to prescribe you some T3? I see a post where you had an unhelpful one. So sorry, believe me I know the pain you're going through.
Definitely try the salt in orange juice as recommended by Eeyore100 above. Ideally it should be seasalt, but in an emergency whilst out and about, I've gone into McDonald's and ordered the Tropicana orange juice and used the free sachet salt for a boost.
I can’t afford to see another endo. I made a bad mistake last time by choosing an unhelpful one. I will try the orange juice & sea salt - what does that do? Thanks for your empathy.
Sorry I somehow missed your reply but I see Eeyore and SarahJane provided the info you needed. It is recommended you take the adrenal cocktail twice a day. Some people take it at bedtime because it helps with the night time wakings.
Some people find it best to take morning and afternoon to avoid the dreaded afternoon slump.
I hope you'll get back to yourself soon and find some help. Next time you can ask for a recommendation of a doctor on the forum and people will give you their experiences of that doctor so less risk with your money
thank you Alanna. So I should take orange juice with sea salt twice a day? Only problem is my blood pressure. I’m supposed to be cutting down on salt. And do you know anything about Floradix for iron? I just don’t want to waste any more on products that don’t work.
Ok hold off on the adrenal cocktail for now then. But before you reduce your salt a few things:
Throw out any salt that isn't unprocessed sea salt or Himalayan salt, and replace them with good quality celtic sea salt. It is processed common table salt stripped of all trace minerals that increases blood pressure. Some would say blood pressure rising is a sign that your body us under stress. See next point.
Get your sodium levels checked. My blood pressure became high and the doctor started talking about my salt intake, but guess what? After he tested, the results showed that my sodium levels were on the floor, below the actual NHS range, I was almost hyponatremic. No wonder I was feeling so ill. I then turned to the seasalt.
My personal opinion is that you probably need some T3. You have been forcing your body to manage on what is quite probably not enough levo monotherapy for too long, or you at least you need an increase. That's my guess. This puts a lot of stress on the body. You need your results. ALWAYS get paper copies of all results. If I hadn't requested mine, I wouldn't have known about my sodium levels. Then post them here.
I also suggest starting a new separate post about your blood pressure, as there are members here with more experience of this.
Floradix is more gentle and includes iron cofactors like B12 and vit c (if I remember correctly) but the one people tend to advise to use is 3 Arrows Heme Iron which comes from the US.
Eating liver (lambs and chicken's liver tends to taste nicer) and liver pate every week can help. Also sardines Mackeral, figs, prunes, green bananas (if available in your area) molasses. Take a vit C supplement, or drink orange juice while consuming to help boost absorption.
I myself can't currently tolerate any supplemental iron as it aggravates my chronic urticaria, but I try to add the aforementioned foods in my diet. But I have no idea what my iron status is. The NHS puts it as very high. Private tests put it as very low.
I was told by a naturopath that Vitamin D, Vitamin A, vitamin C and B Complex are Iron cofactors just supplementing iron alone will be less effective.
Thank you Alanna. You’re very knowledgeable. Actually I’ve been vegetarian for many years but I do eat all tinned fish. I eat bananas but not green. I have just bought floradix so I will give that a go.. I’ve also been taking vitamin D with K for some time. Could you explain your last paragraph please. I didn’t understand it. Thank you
You say that people have had T3 taken away. As I understand it they can't do that. I found this NHS leaflet (google) - 'Is your medication being changed?'
thanks for this. So cream of tartare in the OJ too?! Yes here in Essex I know of a few people whose NHS GP has stopped their T3 and they’re devastated. So trying to find other sources
I have found,, to my dismay , that GPs seem to be lacking in their knowledge/training of what symptoms could be interpreted as having a dysfunctional thyroid gland.
One of the surgery's GPs phoned me and after his response I told him that 'I am sorry but that's incorrect.
My TSH was 100 but was told I had no 'problems'. If you click on my name you can read my 'road' to be diagnosed.
